    Spike kettles vs Blichmann

Good thinking. Having had both, I can all but guarantee that you'll be happier with an e-BIAB setup vs. a 2-vessel k-RIMS.

    Spike kettles vs Blichmann

I refitted my old 10 gallon MegaPot based on the Brewhardware design, replacing my 2 vessel KRIMS setup. For me, it's been a brew-day game changer. Simple, compact, a breeze when it comes to cleanup and no detectable sacrifice in beer quality. Highly recommended!

    Is my PID dead?

    Is my PID dead?

I had a similar issue... temperature readouts were jumping around, especially if I wiggled the DSPR around from the front. I loosened and re-tightened all of the temperature probe connections and to my surprise, that seemed to fix it. Good luck.

    Help with k-rims idea

Years ago, I upgraded to a 2 vessel, K-RIMS setup similar to this "High Gravity/Wort Hog" system Wort Hog 2-Vessel │ 10 gallon. In the beginning of the year, I decided to convert my old Megapot boil kettle to an eBIAB rig based on Bobbys Brewhardware design. Everything he mentions in post #8...

    Sample Valve O-Ring?

Won't Spike tell you the size if asked? If you do ask and get a definitive answer, please let us know.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Homebrewing wouldn’t be as dynamic if not for those “slaps forehead” moments.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

As the liquid cools, it contracts and the pressure will drop. That contraction is what causes the “suck back” when cold crashing.

small batches and conical fermenters. worth it or just excessive?

I agree with your skepticism. Volume markings are often not exactly as stated, especially when you have the option of different equipment configurations at the dump port. I always use the top port for sampling... less apt to capture solids. As a work around, I could connect the sample valve to...

small batches and conical fermenters. worth it or just excessive?

I have a CF-5... haven't done a small batch yet so I've not experimented with volume levels. What volume of wort is needed to completely cover the uppermost side port? I realize Spike uses that port for the thermowell but I have swapped positions and now use the sample valve in the top port. Thanks!

    Dry hopper

Exactly! When I built my dry hopper, I purchased one of those 90 degree (blue ball handle) butterfly valves and it was a bear to get the hops to drop. I now use that valve on the racking arm and use the 180 degree Spike valve for the hop drop. Still have to use a rubber mallet at times but...

    Dry hopper

I use the fermenting gas to purge the keg. Don't know for sure by looking at the 2 pictures of the "all in one" but it looks as though that might not be possible. With the Blichmann, the co2 gasses off through the adjustable PRV barbed fitting and through the keg.

I too have the Spike PRV... it's collecting dust since I purchased this... Spunding Valve Much more versatile.

    Dry hopper

Yes, the Blichmann spunding valve has an adjustable PRV. I ferment under about 8-10psi. For the DH, I seal the FV by closing the butterfly valve, slowly bleed the 10psi off that remains in the sight glass by loosening the clamp on top that holds the spunding valve. Fill with hops, purge top...

    Dry hopper

Here's mine - 2" sight glass with adapters and Blichmann spunding valve on top. I don't fill it with hops until ready for the drop. Close butterfly valve, remove spunding valve, fill with hops, attach gas and purge hop chamber top and bottom by loosening clamps, retighten clamps, drop. I have...
