I racked my beer right on puréed strawberries. Let it sit for two more weeks and viola....strawberry flavor!! Adding extract can get out of hand. Add too much and you have over flavored beer. IMHO fresh fruit is always best!!
I just head up to the corner liquor store and pay them the deposit for the bottles they get from customers. My lhbs charges $ .50 a bottle so it's worth it to me.
I just ferment in the closet. U do have to watch carefully tho as a one gallon batch can go crazy on temp changes as it ferments. Not sure on the extract as I don't use it anymore. I looked at it as a good way to learn the process of all grain brewing
I started brewing 1 gallon batches. Basically taking any five gallon recipe and dividing it by five. Gets u fairly close. You can then do an all grain brew in a bag also. The only downside is that if u make a beer u love u only have like eight bottles of it
I'm brewing a wheat beer. Fairly simple recipe. The pepper is the question. I've read about people using all different kinda for a beer like this. I'm thinking about using a chili pepper. One gallon batch by the way
Looking for your suggestions on how many peppers to use. I would like to impart a little kick, not too much, and a mellow aroma. I don't want the pepper to overtake the beer flavor. What do u think??
I would say your best option is to call your lhbs and see if they would either trade them for corny kegs or for store credit. IMO commercial kegs and for just that. Filling carbonating and cleaning them is a pain without the right equipment.
