    First Timer (Mr. Beer)

You'll be fine bud. Just stay patient. Forget about it if you can. Before you know it, you'll have your beer.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Ruination with jalapeno. It's already Ruination, and then you've got this crazy acid-y heat on it. The type of acidity that makes you ruminate on the upcoming severe heartburn you will face. Dumped the 4 oz or so sample into the garbage after just a few sips.

Why does my beer taste like cat pee?

I've been on a Kona Big Wave kick and there is a HUGE difference in taste depending on the bottle date. Had a bottle recently that was 10/01/12. Hardly any fruit flavor at all. Last night I had a bottle dated 02/26/13. Crazy fruit explosion with a catty background. I've had bottles in the past...

What is the best way to remove labels from beer bottles?

I just have an unused plastic trash can that I bought from Home Depot for like $5 filled with water and PBW/oxyclean. When I finish drinking a bottle, I rinse it out and throw it in there. Whenever I get a hankering for working on beer stuff, I will pull a few out. The labels come off with no...

Looking for Kona Big Wave Golden Ale Clone

I just bought some more Big Wave, this time not from the same store (Vons), but from BevMo. After I bought it, I cracked one open and noticed that the flavor wasn't there. Not much fruit at all and kind of boring. Checked the bottling date and indeed, it was bottled October 1, 2012. The other...

    Beware of Auber Instruments

I still don't get why everyone is suggesting OP needed to make a "better shipping decision." Every apartment I've ever rented had a main office that accepted packages. If that was SOP for OP he wouldn't have thought twice about ordering. It is not Auber's fault nor OP's fault, it is FedEx's...

    Island golden ale

In your recipe, how did you determine the hop amount for the flavor/aroma addition? I assume based upon your experience testing similar recipes? I was thinking maybe do a 1.5:1 galaxy:citra ratio, since everyone says Citra overpowers everything. I don't have a lot of experience building recipes...

so what's the worst part of brewing for you

I don't think delabeling is a chore really. I have a small trash can filled with PBW/Oxy water that I toss empty beer bottles into. Most of the commercial beer I buy have labels that will fall off after a good soak. Hangar 24 bottles suuuuuck because they use some sort of weird plastic glue...

My First Catastrophe - Should I dump it?

They sell spigots at home depot? What aisle/section?

    Island golden ale

Any update on this one? Anyone actually brew this one yet? I'm planning on trying out one of the several sort-of clone attempts this weekend if I can get some galaxy from a LHBS.

    Beware of Auber Instruments

FedEx should know whether or not to drop off packages at an apartment front desk. OP mentioned that this is usually what happens. Therefore, it's FedEx's fault entirely, because they've likely delivered packages before, and would know that it is standard procedure to do it. It makes sense to...

    Newbies first cider

Those bottles are the best in my opinion. Less overall hassle when it comes to bottling.

This is probably going to start a riot but...

Everyone mentions the old days of open fermentation when there was no understanding of germ theory as proof that you don't have to be as clean and sanitary as we think. I contend that, given the choice between cholera or some other nasty bug and a slightly off beer due to infection, they'd take...

    ok tons of mistakes...

Next time, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to have an unopened bottle or three of water around just in case you end up running short on boiled top off again. Same thing happened to me last brew day; I grossly understimated the amount of tap/Brita water I was boiling for top off. As for why I...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Mr. Beer isn't really a 2.5 gallon kit. Don't fill it up with as much wort and you won't have these issues. Same as not filling up a 5 gallon bucket with 5 gallons.

    Carbonating Cider For Beginner

You can get the similar (exactly the same?) product in the US. It's called EZ Caps. That's what I have.

    Carbonating Cider For Beginner

Perhaps. I still haven't even bothered messing with the 2 cap drinks I made; 1 cider and 1 cyser. They've been sitting in the 2L bottles for a couple months now. I tried a bit of one at around week 3 and it tasted kinda funky. Perhaps it is the yeast, or the lack of sanitization procedures.. or...
