    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Like applescrap said above, yes. I like having 2 probes in a thick cut of meat, like brisket, just in case I have one in a fat pocket, the other should be accurate. Plus I like having 2 on the grate at different points. A couple winters ago, it was around 20°F one night while I was smoking a...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

When I lived in TX I had a buddy who used to do this. Once it stalled, he'd wrap it and throw it in the oven at 275 til done. He claimed after 3 or 4 hours, it's reached max smoke levels, and keeping it in his stick burner was just wasting wood. I personally could never tell the difference...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

This is what I do. Just smoked a 12# brisket over the weekend (no pics, oops). Threw it on at 6:30pm Friday night at 225°, bumped it up at 5am to 275°, went back to bed til 730 (having a pellet smoker and a thermometer with 4 probes helps you sleep like a baby on long cooks!), pulled the brisket...

Vasoline on O-Rings, and now my QD is a pain to get on and off

Yakima Valley Hops has them for $15.99. So if you need a bunch of hops and want to upgrade to these, this is probably the way to do it.

If you could only have 3 yeasts

Hornindal Kveik, 3724/565, wlp830. Hornindal works for almost any ale, giving it different profiles based on temp. 3724/565 cuz I brew a Saison about once every 2-3 months. 830 cuz you always need a good well rounded lager yeast.

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

8.5# butt done. Getting pulled now. Has a combo of kosmos q honey chipotle killer bee and meat church deez nuts (cuz I ran out of the kosmos, and the flavor profile is pretty much the same). Smoked on a blend of hickory and apple

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I've smoked one chuck before. Was a bit bigger, more like 6# if I remember right. Took 9 or 10 hours to get to 190-195 with the smoker set to 225, I believe. Plus an hour and a half to 2 hours wrapped in a towel in a cooler. 12 or so hours total. So a little more than half that size, 9hrs should...

Yup. I was missing something. Got hung up on the math I missed the problem

PPG calculation question - check my math please

Am I missing something? You have 3 gallons, right? 10 oz lactose + 3 oz maltodextrin per single gallon would give you about 33 total points. So, you'd need 30 oz lactose and 9 oz maltodextrin to raise 3 gallons to riase 33 points. EDIT: Checked my/your math on brewer's friend and yeah, 10oz...

Hi Everyone!, what makes HB interesting for you?

I initially got into it when I moved to Jacksonville, FL from the NY/VT area and left behind great craft brews for what used to be a beer wasteland in Jax. Then I made some pretty horrible beers, and once I've determined I'm going to figure something out, I spend all of my disposable income and...

    How aggressive are hop roots?

I thought about the pot route, but I thought hop plants grow so fast that they'd become root bound in weeks. But I may try that. Normally I'd build my own planter box for this, but HomeDepot has a 2 pack of 22" resin pots for something like $45, and I don't really want to spend a weekend...

    How aggressive are hop roots?

So, my wife allowed me to purchase hop rhizomes this winter for planting near our house. Our original plan was to remove a couple 7' tall bushes that got sun from around 11:30am-9pm near our deck and replace them with a 8'X5' privacy fence where the hops would grow with some horizontal training...

    Which Fruit in Saison?

Last year, after Thanksgiving, I bought 3 lbs of cranberries and made a cranberry saison using nelson sauvin hops, which seemed to be a hit. Boiled them in about a half gallon of RO water for about 10min, threw them in to the fermentor. Only downside was the amount of loss at the bottom of the...
