    pickup tube problems

It's a brass full port 1/2" valve. I don't know what could be blocked it though? Hot wort, fresh from a boil? no settling? hops in a bag? just really strange....

    pickup tube problems

Yes, it's a compression fitting. It's tight, but not reefed on. I can move the pickup tube with some force but the compression fitting is not leaking. I have the pickup tube back in the kettle with the tube tightened the same amount as usual. It doesn't leak air with the pickup end held close...

    pickup tube problems

So, I wanted to run this past you guys to see why I'm having troubles with my pickup tube. I've had this tube for awhile, but last nite ran into the most trouble I've had with it. I started with this tube and doing gravity drains - not a big deal, it all worked pretty good as long as all the...

    pumping from the mash tun

Not sure where you're getting .5 gallons per pound to sparge. Generally, you sparge enough water to get your boil volume to where you want it to be. Incidentally your boil volume should but more like 12 or 13 gallons. Evaporation and cooling and trub loss factored in. Try this...

    pumping from the mash tun

I would recirculate, but I wonder since I don't have heat on the mash tun, if I wouldn't get a drop in temperature?

    pumping from the mash tun

I agree. I've valve it down to keep the flow slower....

    pumping from the mash tun

So, I've been doing all grain 5 and 10 gallon batches now via gravity. I have a square cooler I've been using as a mash tun, and I batch sparge into that cooler too. I've usually just let gravity take care of the first runnings and subsequent spargings into the boil kettle . I've been...

Grant's Perfect Porter Clone - AG help needed

Ok.. taking this all into account. This is what I'm thinking now.. after consulting other people's take of the beer... what they remember Main points are very chocolaty, milk chocolate milk notes, noticeable peat notes.. and thinner. A few new ideas.. I am adding some cocoa powder to the...

    small Danby keezer build

5lb co2 cylinder... don't have dimensions offhand, but about 5 inches in diameter. The drain pan had a threaded drain pipe. A locking nut was supplied with it to tighten it down to the surface once the hole was drilled.

    small Danby keezer build

They're pretty common. Magic Chef and Frigidaire make one. I believe it is 5 cf. I can get three kegs around the hump. My CO2 canister actually fits between the 3 kegs... and on the compressor hump sits my drainage jug.

    small Danby keezer build

Thought I would share my latest build... I took a white small Danby chest freezer and put a tower, drain tray, temp controller in it. Put Perlick's newest faucets and a SS tower on. I know some worry about the lid and the tower, but i have space behind my freezer.. and I put castor wheels...

I've Had it With These POS Traceable Thermometers!

Be warned... I did order this from VWR International, a Control Company distributor... and I got the fiberglass (they say PVC) type k probe... after a long backorder. After a conference call with VWR and Control Company (VWR set it up, it was handy) I was told that the probe wasn't supposed...

I've Had it With These POS Traceable Thermometers!

This seemed to be the best deal to me, a little more economical than the Thermoworks setup. I ordered the same outfit from VWR International @$29.65 - a little more expensive than Cole Palmer, but hopefully they get the silicone type K probe right... I'm looking forward to just tossing the...
