I really wish they had included an ethernet port on the pico. I understand why they didn't, but I'm a believer in 'two is one and one is none'.

NE Style IPA, too tough for a beginner?

It's your beer, you can do whatever you want with it. Probably best to listen to people with more experience though ;)

And my experience is quite different from yours. I've yet to produce anything even remotely drinkable using the pico. I've had to dump 2-3 batches and the ones I didn't dump were only slightly better. Only the very first batch I brewed (a stout) could even be identified as fitting into any...

Something that all first time brewers need to hear: Your fermentation is NOT stuck! Just leave it alone and let the yeast do their thing.

Daaaamn, that sucks! It almost seems like going the all-grain route might be a better option for you. That way you wouldnt be stuck having to use Pico's proprietary stuff and could use commodity hardware and ingredients.

The beer that refused to be brewed

I have to say that I admire your tenacity :)

You can get quite a few batches from 1 vial/smack pack of liquid yeast. You'll get 2 from the initial pitching (only need to pitch half) and then just harvest and save the slurry from those to get probably another 4-6 batches worth. Then you can harvest the slurry from those, etc. etc.

That is something I have planned. I'm just waiting on a couple fermenter parts to arrive. Once they're here I'll be doing 2 extract batches, one with liquid yeast (London III), and the other with dry US05. I will post results here.

Off flavor, eh? Hmmm, that's usually caused by

I'm actually going to be doing a couple of extract batches next. The consistent bad results I get from the Pico have got me thinking that it HAS to be something I'm doing wrong. Either that or maybe I'm just particularly sensitive to some flavor/smell produced by US05. If those turn out...

All 5-6 of my batches have had this same flavor and smell that you describe. 2 were complete dumpers, the rest I finished, but it was mainly out of spite. None of the batches were what I would describe as 'good' or 'tasty'. Could only stomach 3 pints from the last batch and that one only had 1...

If kept refrigerated liquid yeast should be good for a couple months at least, waaaaaaaaaay more than 7 days.

    That German ale yeast tho....

Hmmmm, I see a blowoff tube in your future...

Good luck! My attempt at the Plinius turned out to be an undrinkable, disgusting mess. Ended up dumping half of it it was that bad.

Post your "whoops" moments- messes, etc

Bought 1 oz each of Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic at the store yesterday. Bagged 'em up and on the drive home realized that I forgot to write the name of the hop on each bag. Oops.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Thanks. There just so happens to be a cake shop right across the street from the local homebrew shop so I will hit them up today :D Also, i noticed that the 2 gallon Mr. Beer fermenters are just $10. Anyone have experience with these? They look to have a nice, wide opening for easy cleaning and...
