First AG, does this all look right?

    Just giving this a bump.

First AG, does this all look right?

You can see my recipe above.. I "calibrated" my MLT per Beertools by preheating the tun, pouring in 140F water, taking a temp reading after 5 minutes (139F) and then taking another temp reading after 60 more minutes (133F). So it looks like I will loose about 6F in an hour. My current plan is...

First AG, does this all look right?

This will be my first AG and I have set thing up in Beertools Pro. I think I'm all set in the software and receipe. Does all this look correct to you? Any suggestions? Tadcaster Ordinary Bitter (All Grain) 8-A Standard/Ordinary Bitter Size: 5.04 gal Efficiency: 75.0% Attenuation...

Making a mash tun, need some advice...

Yeah with mine, the hole is just above the cusp where the wall of the cooler meets the floor. A real pain to get a good seal, but it's do-able.

You are correct. Typically they have a hole in them.

Making a mash tun, need some advice...

Well it just so happens (if I understand your dilemma) I JUST went through the same trouble with my MLT that I built. It's a 48qt Coleman rectangular cooler. I built a manifold out of 1/2" copper tubing. I had a BI**H of a time getting a seal at the nipple/inner wall and having it not leak...

Round Vs. Square Cooler for Mash Tun

I've been told that galvanized is bad. I would go with either copper/brass/ss.

Round Vs. Square Cooler for Mash Tun

I just soldered the elbows and T's together, the pipes in the middle are not permanently attached so that I could clean it. There is no brass just copper. Do I still need to pickle it?

Round Vs. Square Cooler for Mash Tun

I just built mine: *==========* / / T==========T / T=BV T==========T / / *==========* I used a 3/32" drill bit and drilled a crap load of holes. I have not used it yet but will be brewing my first AG THIS weekend!!:rockin: Do I need to "pickle" the copper...

Is clear vinyl tubing safe in a cooler MLT?

Thanks guys! That's what I though but I wanted to ask the "experts" to make sure.

Is clear vinyl tubing safe in a cooler MLT?

I am building a MLT out of a cooler which I had laying around the house. I have built the copper manifold and am having difficulty connecting it to the bulkhead. I was thinking of using a small piece of clear 1/2" vinyl tubing to connect it. My question is: Do you think that it will hold up...

    First AG taste

I'm going to assume that that taste goes away in time? I've had some Stouts from a cousin that have aged 4-6 months that they did not seem to have that taste. Could that taste be caused from bottle conditioning?

    First AG taste

I am finding that all of my extract beers (all bottle conditioned) seem to have the same underlying taste. It's not bad, but the same. Is this due to them being extract kits or from the bottle conditioning? I'm going to be moving to AG once I finish the manifold for my mash tun.

    Austin Home Brew Kits

I believe you can. You will need to reduce any hops that you add within the first 30 minutes of the boil. Doing a full boil gives you better hops utilization. The kits from Northern Brewer have add instructions for doing a full boil along with regular instructions for doing a partial boil. So I...

    Stupid snowplow!

You guys should consider yourselves lucky! We just got nailed over the weekend and I was lucky to see a plow go by once in 36+ hours! And I live in town too! Makes me wonder what I pay my taxes for?

    Sweet Success!

I wonder how this brew would be doing a full boil?

Anybody ever start off brewing AG..??

I know that I just made my 5th extract brew this past Sunday. It seems like every time I start to think "Hey this brewing stuff is a piece of cake, I know exactly what I'm doing" I come across something in this forum that tells me that I did something wrong. Doh! Well too late to fix it now...

How long will harvested yeast keep?

Do I need to wash the yeast prior to putting in a jar to store or can I just sanitize everything and scoop up a cup or two of the cake and slap it into a jar? With the price of yeast going up slowly I think I will start saving my cakes.

    Vista

Well I don't know your level of experience, but just a word of caution when it comes to reformatting a new Laptop/PC. Some new systems have a partition that is the "recovery" image. If you go to reformat and install a new OS be aware that you may be stepping on your recovery image. Even though...
