DIY grain mill in the works...

Step two complete. I didn't take a pic of both rollers but they look the same. I got an off center hole drilled into some round stock for the adjuster knobs but haven't turned them down or knurled the yet. Will get back to work on that Monday.

DIY grain mill in the works...

I'm doing this a little backwards. In a perfect world I would procure the bearings first, machine the rollers to dimension, and then put on the knurled finish. But the world isn't perfect and I don't know how long I'll have access to the knurling tool so I did that first. Anyway...first step...

Ultimate BIAB rig - Build Thread

Yeah, you're right about it getting scratched up...didn't think of that. Even powder coat would take a beating over time. As long as you're well ventilated the zinc fumes can be mitigated. After a burn or two it should be a non issue anyway, just wanted to make sure you knew not to stand...

Ultimate BIAB rig - Build Thread

Nice build. Only thing I would have done differently is build the davit out of 1 1/2" that way it fits inside the 2" support. One word of caution in case you don't know already...be wary of fumes from that zinc coating on the sheet metal. It's pretty bad stuff. The wind guard is probably a...

What spare parts do you keep on hand?

I just read Walker's thread about a failed SSR and it got me to wondering what to keep on hand other to prevent a brew day from coming to a halt. I just ordered some parts to start my build last night. I was looking at one of PJ's drawings and figured a failed SSR was a deal breaker and a...

    Planning phase...soliciting controller advice

I want to build a counter top brutus (I think I'm labeling it correctly) but on a larger scale. Boil kettle will be a 62 qt bayou classic with a 5500w element and mash tun will be 10 gallon drink cooler. There's plenty of documented info on that system and wiring for an appropriate PID...

    BIAB and heat sticks???

Does anyone brew this way? I'm wanting to do a K.I.S.S. , single kettle, all grain set up and this seems to be the way to do it but I'm not sure how to keep the sticks from coming in contact with the grain/bag or if it matters. Also, how would you hold temp during the mash without a PID or is...

    Biab

Awesome, thanks. So how much did you buy? At 118" wide that's what, a shade under 11" per yard?

What did you use for material?

Drilled a bit too large on keggle

You could make the hole even bigger and go with a 3/4 x 1/2 bell reducer.

    1st attempt...tried and FAILED miserably!!!

So how much of a floating thermometer is supposed to stick out of the wort? I bought one today from the LHBS along with some iodophor so I'd have everything I need to brew my first batch...and how fitting on Home Brew Day. So I clean everything and start heating the water for the steeping...

Replacing gaskets on flip-tops; should I add yeast too?

I work for a company that makes custom gaskets and we've got a material that I think might work well for that. If you want, PM me your address and I'll send you a dozen of them. All I ask in return is feedback on how they're working for you from time to time. Clint

My landlord told me to stop brewing!

I would go over the lease with a fine tooth comb and go from there.
