    6 Keg Cooler

FYI to anybody interested. Home Depot has a "special buy" on a Magic Chef 10 cubic foot chest freezer for $269. I've had my eyes out for a few months and this price seems pretty good to me. I just test fit some cornies, and it will hold 6 with room to spare, and then there is the hump area...

    Thick, strong krausen

Great. I'm excited then. Will this drop on it's own, or should I rack while it's up there. Please don't tell me to measure gravity, I'm a boil and dump kind of guy and have never measured gravity. I know, I need to start measuring, but it's just too much fun to get too technical.:)

    Thick, strong krausen

So i peeped into my minibrew 5 gal. on Sunday and the krausen was very dense and firm looking. So much so that I felt like I could pull it out whole. There are no off odors, white patches or other funky stuff. I just has a thick pizza dough look to it. The batch was a 7 day old all grain...

    Volatile gasses across the US

Technically the tanks are owned by the gas company. Weather it's ethical or not to keep the tank for the value of the "deposit" is up in the air. This is a discussion we see here at least once a week. There are several ways to get new tanks once you move; home depot, meth labs, tailgating...

Is this really a crazy idea?

Ok, crazy it is. Seriously though, really good points all around. It was just a though rattling around in my head.

Is this really a crazy idea?

I agree, I think the pressure is relatively low though. I'm sure some of the smarter folks around here know though.

Is this really a crazy idea?

I am wondering, with all of the skill available on this board, shouldn't it be possible to redesign a 5 gallon "keg" so that 4 would fit into the Sanyo fridge? Here is my idea: weld a square tube to a volume of 5 gallons, add an opening for a corny lid, and attach the posts. I know this is...

    Maximum vessel size

I currently do 5 gallon batches, AG and am looking to build a little brew sled for myself. For reasons of simplicity and cost I'd rather use kegs than pots for this setup but am wondering if there is a maximum size preference for this type of thing. Specifically, there has got to be minimum...

    Vanilla Porter

How much vanilla extract should I add to this malt bill to get a nice vanilla flavor? 6.00 lb Caravienne Malt (22.0 SRM) Grain 75.0 % 1.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 18.8 % 0.25 lb Black (Patent) Malt...

    Home Brew belly Be GONE!

Sounds good. When my anniversary rolled around in Oct. I decided to drop a few pounds, and lost 15 by the end of the year. A few things I found that helped: Find a quick and easy breakfast. For me it was a Myoplex protein shake. Not exactly gourmet, but healthier than Mc Donalds, Hardees...

1st AG mashing as we speak

Ok. Things went pretty well until after the boil. I collected 6.5 gallons of wort and boiled down to 5.5. I went to run it through my Shirron chiller and that's where things went bad. I have it set up kettle, chiller, pump, fermentor. Thing is no matter how hard I try i can't purge the air...

1st AG mashing as we speak

I'm doing this cream ale from NB. I am doing it single infusion rather than step until I can upgrade my setup. Regardless I missed my target by 2 degrees and have lost another degree in 1/2 an hour. I'm keeping the lid closed on my cooler though, it's really really hard not to peek.

1st AG mashing as we speak

Not knowing if announcing your first all grain batch is mandatory or optional, I better make it known just to cover my bases. Hopefully everything goes well. Thanks to all of the great info you brewers put on this site. It's amazing this much knowledge is free.

I'm in Appleton WI and I'm replacing my gas hot water heater soon. Anybody interested in it for parts? Let me know.

Do i even need a manifold?

I just picked up a Coleman Xtreme with the drain located down in a recessed channel and was wondering if i even need a manifold? I am thinking of a metal plate or mesh screen over the tunnel rather than the manifold, and I plan to batch sparge. I feel like i have just defined a false bottom...

    Beerxml wordpress plugin

I should add that with the Beerxml standard you don't need something like word press. You can post your recipes anywhere, it just provides a standard format that other programs can read with no problems. Recipe Tavern uses the beerxml format for its recipes, like this Pale Ale.

    Beerxml wordpress plugin

I notice a lot of guys post links to recipes they make and they are hosted on a personal site or blog. Well, if you're using wordpress, you should really give this Beerxml plugin a try. I have been using it for a couple of months and think it is pretty slick. The nicest part about it is that...

    First heat stick batch

Ok I made up some 1500 watt heat sticks and really like them. Much better than the cold garage here in WI. I added a few of my own touches that really dress them up. Before I went for the first batch I tested my electric stove and heat stick, and my water topped out at 200 degrees (6 gal)...

    Extract Sculpture. Anybody got one?

I got a really sweet deal on a welder and picked it up. I'm thinking of building an extract sculpture were I can have everything in one neat package; burner, igniter, plate chiller, pump, etc.. Has anybody seen or heard of such a thing? Also, what would you put on yours if you made one. I...

Obligatory did I ruin it thread

Well I took a hydrometer reading and it was 1011. I forgot to take one after the boil, first time jitters, so I don't know what the change was. The sample tasted pretty boozy. Isn't this pretty high for fermentation to have stopped? I was just making a Northern extra pale kit.
