    Krausen from hell....

Thanks, it looks like even though the pressure is still having to force it's way through it is getting out so hopefully I won't have to break out the mop in the morning. I will say though, that if anyone has any plans/pics of a blow off system for a 6.5 bucket that has a larger diameter than...

    Krausen from hell....

Just remembered I've used my tile saw to cut through PVC and tried that one...hopefully it will work...if not I am probably going to have to relegate myself to cleaning up a mess on the floor and ceiling tomorrow morning.

    Krausen from hell....

Unfortunately that was the first thing I tried...4 minutes later this is what I'm seeing so the fix doesn't exactly last.....

    Krausen from hell....

I already have one going but it isn't quite as large. Right not I've taken one of the normal 3 piece airlocks and taken off everything but the main assembly and attached a 1/2" or 5/8" hose (can't remember which fits tight) to the main tubing. The thing is still clogging though within thirty...

    Krausen from hell....

If anyone can give any advice on this I'd appreciate it... I brewed up my first high gravity beer on Saturday night (Dogfish Head 90 min IPA) which took a little while to get going on fermentation. After about 36 hours I started to see regular bubbles coming through the air lock and since...

    High final gravity question

Since I've already moved it off the yeast cake when I moved it to secondary should I add a small amount of additional Nottingham since I do have an extra packet or will the suspended yeast that transferred be enough after getting a bit more O2 during the transfer and swirling?

    High final gravity question

I put a batch of Fuller's London Porter on back on 1/5/09 and ended with an OG of around 1.051. Today I racked it to a secondary to make room for an IPA I'm trying tonight but when I took a gravity reading it had only dropped to 1.02. I used Nottingham dry yeast which their website says has...

Longest time with green beer taste?

I all, I'm not asking this from being worried standpoint since I have definitely become a believer in time heals all beers (well most beers...I don't think any amount of time will ever help a Budweiser :cross:), but since I'm still pretty new to brewing I'm a bit curious as to what the...

Largest area a dorm fridge will chill?

Checked the compressor and unfortunately it doesn't list the BTU rating. I also tried searching on the manufacture's site for some info but apparently the thing is too old. Guess this means I will be seriously scaling back the project. I'll probably just do it large enough for a single 5...

Largest area a dorm fridge will chill?

Hi all, I'm about to start work on a fermentation chamber using an old dorm fridge to cool it. However I'm not sure how large I can make the cabinet without over taxing the refrigerator. Right now I was looking at around a 16 cubic foot area anyone have any idea if this is too much or not?

Greetings from Beer Hell (Aka Alabama)

Unfortunately it was real...the guy is an absolute idiot along with most of our state's legislators. As to having a home brew shop in a state that doesn't allow home brewing, I guess it comes down to the fact that the federal government allows up to 200 gallons of beer to be brewed by a...

Greetings from Beer Hell (Aka Alabama)

Just racked it to secondary today so it's nowhere. Ear ready but I did yltry a sip of it and I think it is going to turn out really well. As to alabrew, they definitely have strong opinions about how they thing things should be done but I am definitly willing to deal with that small hassle in...

Greetings from Beer Hell (Aka Alabama)

Thanks for posting that. I was listening to that live last year and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I have told so many friends about it but no one has believed how rediculous holmes was with that speech

Greetings from Beer Hell (Aka Alabama)

Hey, any of you guys from Birmingham know of any good places locally to get cheap used corny kegs? After these first few batches that I've bottled, I definitly think kegging is the way I want to go for most of my brews. (Plus it gives me an excuse to build a nice keezer ;-) )
