Brewing my 2nd batch tomorrow - Witbier this time.. just a couple of questions.

Man, is it ever! I'm just hoping the kit I bought can still be useful for all grain brewing. 2 - gallon buckets(one with a spigot) and a 5 gallon carboy will be useful for all grain brewing.

Brewing my 2nd batch tomorrow - Witbier this time.. just a couple of questions.

Thanks for the advice, guys! yeah, can't wait to try that nut brown ale.. waiting is SO hard. I think I will use the bucket and just leave it until it's time to bottle. Just to be 100% clear on the steps.. I pull the muslin bag out of the wort after steeping for the recommended 45...

Brewing my 2nd batch tomorrow - Witbier this time.. just a couple of questions.

hmm.. this might be a problem then. Any reason I couldn't do that in a 5 gallon bucket with an airlock on top? That's what I used the first time, then transferred to the glass carboy.. but I'd like to not have to transfer it for secondary fermentation. By the way, what do you use as a 'blow...

Brewing my 2nd batch tomorrow - Witbier this time.. just a couple of questions.

My first batch was a nut brown ale. I bottled it on Monday and actually tasted it that day as well and it seemed good. Looking forward to trying one in a week or two! First question: I've been trying to read as many posts on here as I can, and I'm still up in the air on this one. After I...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

I guess I need to run the beer through a strainer then when I transfer it to the bottling bucket? I didn't strain when I transferred to the secondary fermentor and I probably just wasn't careful enough about not picking up the trub that settled to the bottom. Anyways, thanks for the reply.. I...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

Here are the pictures of the things floating in my beer. I'm no longer concerned about what's floating on top, because they are definitely little bubbles. But the things in the pictures kinda look like big white chunks floating around everywhere. Just want to make sure they aren't a big deal...

Can I brew 1 gallon of beer in 5 gallon equipment?

Sorry if this has already been discussed.. maybe I'm not searching it correctly, but everything I own is for brewing 5 gallons at a time. Can I buy a 1-gallon kit and brew if properly in the equipment I own? I'm not so much concerned about the steeping/boiling process, but is there an issues...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

LOL!!! Not possible! I feel like a little kid at Christmas! I should have pictures posted within the hour.. camera batteries are recharging.

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

You WILL NOT regret doing this! I should have been on here asking questions and reading posts.. and then maybe I wouldn't actually have dreams about my beer being ruined! to add to this... let me know if you have any questions. I'm not super knowledgeable yet, but I can tell you things I ran...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

I"ll try to get a picture and get that posted tomorrow.... but the more I look at it, I don't think they're red. I think they're white-ish floating particles and the beer(nut brown) is making them look red. The white floating things on top are definitely bubbles.

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

Ok, so it's been a couple of days since I transferred the beer to a glass carboy for secondary fermentation. What I"m seeing is that there's about an inch of beer at the very top that's somewhat clear compared to the rest. With in that clear beer I can see tiny red things floating around and...

thanks! I'll give it a shot.

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

Thanks for the advice, but it's too late! Just got done with the transfer. There was about and inch of gray sludge sitting in the bottom of the bucket afterwards. Does this sound normal? No 'off' smells or anything like that.. in fact, it smelled pretty good.

    My first brew

Hi aprichman, I saw somewhere where someone said to soak the bottles in bleach to get the labels off. I was all set to start on that tomorrow... but baking soda is the way to go? Also, this person suggested baking the bottles in the oven @350 for about an hour to sanitize them. Your method...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

It is definitely too late! :mug: I've decided I"m not going to wait to see how this first batch turns out. I'm going to pick up my next kit sometime this week and get the second batch brewing... also getting a wort chiller and some star-san. On a side note, my cousin recently picked up...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

Thanks again for all the replies! I should have posted and talked with you guys more before I even brewed this first batch. I guess initially, I was too concerned with the timing of everything. From what I"m hearing, a few days over here and there is not a concern at all. I think I will move...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

I think I will get one just because of how much time it takes to cool the wort. For some reason I remember seeing somewhere that the faster you cool it the better. Is that not necessarily true?

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

    3) I left it uncovered in the sink and kept running ice and cold water around the pot until it was down to 70. Do you think not covering will cause contamination?? 4)Bottle it after 7 to 10 days?? The instructions recommend a secondary fermentation in a glass carboy. You're thinking skip...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

Thanks again for all the replies! Just a few comments/questions. 1) I think the process of steeping/boiling went by w/out any problems. I didn't miss any steps(that I'm aware of). 2) I'm not crazy about IO-star. It creates a reddish/brown solution that stains stuff. I think I'm going to...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

Thanks for all the advice! I'll let you all know how it turns out... actually, I'll probably ask more questions along the way since this is somewhat of a long process.
