Can you soak oak cubes too long?

Putting your oak in Bourbon for ANY length of time won't "hurt" it, you could have it in there for 10 years. It is correct that Bourbon is aged in oak (actually white oak) but is it charred (that's how you get the color of bourbon) and you are using raw or toasted oak. Still won't matter a...

How to add honey to the brew?

Hmm the Mad Elf clone recipe on here tells you to add 2lb of honey at flameout. According to some of these posts that won't do anything for the flavor??

What came in the mail for you today?

Wife had a discount code from ordering stuff from Northern Brewer, so I ordered an AG beer kit Surly Bender. One vial of Fermcap and one bottle of Whirlfloc tabs. Lets see that's two AG beer kits waiting in the wings, gonna be some fun weekends coming up.

    Anchor Steam Xmas- Costco

Allow me to be highly envious of you, as i type this from the "stuck in the 70's, 1870's that is" state of Pennsylvania and its archaic, asinine liquor laws :(

What Beer Turned You on to Craft Beer?

It actually wasn't that long ago. Middle son worked at a Pizza shop (Al's Pizza in Enola,Pa) who recently installed huge coolers that were filled with Microbrew beers. Everytime I went to see him he bought me a mixed six pack. After I tasted the stouts, IPA's and off the wall beers every week I...

    Bourbon Stout

Don't age by a set amount of time, you are unable to duplicate the way they age their beer in your small scale setup so don't worry about the time factor. Just add your chips and taste regularly. Its alot easier to add more oak flavor-than subtract it.

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

The Nottingham yeast really went to town, it was down to 1.004 after about 4 days, was shocked to see it ferment that low especially since my OG was so high and my ferment temps were down around 62 degrees. Let it stay in the primary for a week. Dry hopped with 1oz today. Will let it sit for 5...

    Maximizing Efficiency when Batch Sparging

Ironically, I had a stuck sparge on the first AG batch I did last week. My LHBS REALLY grinds the malt though. I guess they aren't worried about selling more grain
