You know you're a home brewer when?

Might have been said before I haven't read all the pages but your Facebook year in review is mainly comprised of brewing and fermenting pictures

    Irish Draught

Is that the Irish draught kit from northern brewer? I've been wanting to try that one, let us know how it turns out. Also with the volume of beer in the fermenter it will look a lot darker than when you pour a glass of it. :mug:

NB White House Honey Porter boil time/extract addition

Thanks Sudz. Went ahead and did the late extract addition like I usually do. Wasn't sure if adding all of it at 60 and the first hop addition at 45 was to carmelize the the LME or something. Either way its in the bucket now and it will be beer! :mug:

NB White House Honey Porter boil time/extract addition

My first 3 batches were extract, whereas the last 12 or so have been all grain so I have a question about the NB white house honey porter kit that I got free when I ordered some kegging equipment. Considering it would make for a quicker brew day to do a partial boil and top off with chilled...

What's Your Most Absurd, Wierd or Inappropriate Name for a Beer in Competition?

I have a pumpkin stout fermenting right now, since its black and has pumpkin in it I decided to call it the Blumpkin. SWMBO doesn't find it as amusing as I do :D

    Another first A.G thread

Think of it as a good learning experience. I have only done 6 AG batches so far but I have gotten some pretty good results so far and get a little better at the process each time. I've done a few extract batches after work but when doing AG I start early on a weekend so I won't feel rushed...

Looking for a GO TO IPA for my second extract brew...

My second brew and first IPA was the all amarillo ipa from the recipe section, I enjoyed it quite a bit and went over real well with everyone that tried it. I think the only thing I did differently from the original recipe was dry hopping with an ounce of ammarillo for about 5 days before cold...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

    Amarillo/Willamette IPA?

Yeah this is 5 gallons, the only other hops I have here is an ounce of tettenang which probably wont help an IPA, but I can run to the LHBS to grab some more hops tomorrow since I will probably be brewing Sunday.

    Amarillo/Willamette IPA?

Anyone ever used this combo in an IPA? This will be my 3rd all grain batch, this is what I was thinking of using with what I have on hand at the moment. Grains: 11lb 2-row 0.5lb crystal 60 0.5lb carapils Hops 0.75 oz Columbus 16.3AA - 60 min 0.5 oz Amarillo 8.4AA - 15 min 0.5 oz Willamette 5AA...

New Brewer, accidentally got someone elses order. What can I do with these?

I didnt have any issues with wheat, but I didn't exactly halve the ingredients. I only used 4lbs of the wheat malt and upped the pilsner to 3.5lbs since it was my first attempt I was hoping to not have to deal with a stuck sparge. So I guess it wouldn't be a true dunkelweisen since after adding...

    Initial brew...gravity question.

I had the same thing happen on my first couple extract brews, the wort and top up water aren't mixed all the way yet so depending on whats in the sample it will be high or low depending on whether its mainly top up water or concentrated wort. If your total volume and amount of extract match your...

    2nd Brew Day

Forgot to mention I do not have the same burner as you so I am not sure if you will have the same issues (the eldemetal burner seems a lot better quality than mine). Also didn't want to discourage you if you are doing a partial boil, but wanted you to know that in my experience I really needed...

    2nd Brew Day

Also as far as the burner goes are you doing a full volume boil? Only reason I am asking is for my first couple brews I used a propane burner and did partial boils in a 4 gallon pot and was constantly riding the gas control to not boilover and to keep a boil going. For me it was harder to...

first all grain brew day going well so far thanks for the help everyone!

New Brewer, accidentally got someone elses order. What can I do with these?

I built a mash tun from a 10 gallon round igloo cooler last week and have a 10 gallon kettle from spikes, today I am actually doing my first full boil once the grains are done steeping. One thing I wasn't too sure of was having that much wheat in the recipe, not sure if it works real well with a...

New Brewer, accidentally got someone elses order. What can I do with these?

I was all excited when I came home today to find my order from NB had arrived. I ordered a grain mill and the caribou slobber all grain kit which was going to by my first ag attempt. Anyway there was an extra box, had all of my info on it so I opened it up and lo and behold it was someone else's...

    Filtering prior to bottling

The bag was all the way in the bottom of the bucket so the beer wasn't really being strained through it, more on top of it. I just removed it slowly when done transferring, seemed to catch most of the hop debris that I saw flowing through the tubing at the very end of the siphon.

    Filtering prior to bottling

I used a 5 gallon paint strainer bag in the bottling bucket and racked on top of it for an IPA a couple weeks ago. Seemed to help keep the beer pretty clear. However I also had it in the primary for 4 weeks, with the last 3 days cold crashing in the fridge.
