    crazy airlock action!

well, since my siphon tube is too small to fit in my airlock, i just replaced the airlock with the siphon tube(fits as snug in the primary as the airlock) and ran it into a 2qt container of sanitizer. It's happily bubbling away and no mess! I'm going to round up a larger blow off tube so i'm...

    crazy airlock action!

Man, I've been waiting for this! Just brewed my 7th batch, an Imperial Wheat Stout, and have never had a lot of really active airlock activity with past batches, but this one rocks! It's spilling out all over the top of my bucket and is really bubbling. I've spent enough time on this...

What do you use your hydrometer in?

I use a wine thief, most LHBS should have one.

Need a few opinions on how sanitary is sanitary?

Soap is detergent which is good for cleaning or removing visible soil from an object. Once the visible soil is removed, then you need a sanitizing agent like Starsan/Iodopher.

    Thoughts on Sam Adams...

I enjoy most if not all of Sam Adams brews. Way better than the watered down Michelob versions of micros (amberbock, etc). So, I don't think they're anything like the big 3.

Need a few opinions on how sanitary is sanitary?

Revvy, the dispenser works exactly as HomelessWook describes it. I'm in the restaurant biz and have had a lot of food safety training and know quite a bit about chlorine and quat based sanitizers, but have never worked with Iodophor. I know a lot of bars use it, but we use quats to sanitize...

Need a few opinions on how sanitary is sanitary?

Great, thanks for all the info everyone! I bought a gallon of Iodophor at the local farm store and have a commercial dispenser that mixes it between 12.5-25 ppm. So, after sanitizing carboy, I put it on a carboy dryer and there is some foam that will take an hour or so to drain/disspate...

Need a few opinions on how sanitary is sanitary?

Looking for a few opionions here.. If I sanitize my equipment(racking cane, siphon tube, hydrometer, etc) and set it on a sanitzed drying rack, can I leave it sit there for a few days and then use it and not worry about airborne things getting on the equipment? Thanks!

brew room temp around 60 degrees

bennyd, i hear ya! i'm near dubuque and it was -13 here! good to know on your basement temp....i can't help but think that a constant cooler temp room is better than a fluctuating temp room. thanks for your help!
