How far is your commute? (one way)

My commute used to be 2 hours one-way but then we moved to the People's Republic of Cambridge and now it is 20 minutes or less.

LHBS said better to do partial boil?!?

No, you'll likely be using fewer hops with a full boil, it's one of the major benefits.

LHBS said better to do partial boil?!?

Post your exact recipe (based on a partial boil, list the amount of boil it calls for) and someone here will be able to tell you how to adjust things.

LHBS said better to do partial boil?!?

Well, unless you want it to caramelize for some reason (which I never have and seems kind of odd to me), I'd think a full boil would be better. Maybe your LHBS just didn't want to make the hop adjustment?

    Halloween costumes???

My ultimate costume idea (which I have yet to actually do because I never go to costume parties) is to go as the monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey. I'm just going to get a large cardboard box and paint it black.

    the apartment brewer

I'm an apartment brewer and was confined to PM until a recent move to a new apartment brought a deck and the ability to go AG. My biggest problem now is having space for my brewery; the old apartment had tons of room so now I have tons of toys and no place to put them.

Just how bad is oxygen anyway?

Not to worry, I get those bubbles every time I siphon and I have never had an oxidation problem.

    What's your favorite bumper sticker?

"After the rapture, can I have your car?"

    a roommate WTF?!

Given that it was your property it sure sounds like theft to me. As someone already suggested, tell him he owes you (or your sister) a new futon.

    What Size Cooler?

Awesome, thanks for the advice guys. I think I will check out the Coleman Xtreme. I've been using the ss braid for my PMs and I'm not a big fan. I love my cpvc sparge arm so I'm going to go with the 1/2 for my manifold.

    What Size Cooler?

So I am getting my equipment ready for going AG (finally) and I was wondering what size cooler you guys would suggest for an MLT for 5 gallon batches. I don't typically do anything above 1.070 OG. I plan on using a cpvc maniford so I'd like to get something rectangular rather than round...

    Primary vs secondary temps

Just try to keep it below 75 and you should be okay. This goes for once you bottle it too.

    final gravity

Yeah you could either buy another vial and pitch it, or pitch a dry yeast, either way should be fine.

2 quick questions before bottling (actually 3)

You are right about waiting until you get consistent gravity readings on consecutive days. A week is the minimum amount of time I leave my beers in primary. Also make sure the reading is at least close to your target FG, otherwise you might have a stuck ferment. I never worry about straining...

    Whats wrong with this recipe.

It looks fine to me. I'm not a huge hop-head so personally I wouldn't up the hops much. Maybe split the Mt. Hood so you do half at 20 minutes and half at 5 minutes, that'll give you some good flavor and aroma. Other than that it looks spot on.
  20. TheJadedDog

    final gravity

Exactly. When the gravity remained unchanged for several days but was still significantly above the target gravity, that would have been the time to do as Homebrewer_99 recommended and stir the yeast up, maybe bring the temp up slightly, to get the yeast going again in the primary. When you...
