    Blue Bonnet Brew Off 2016

My coffee saison got completely shut down in the SHV category because it tasted too much like coffee and not enough like saison. I need to read the rules and scoresheets better.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Get a usb cable and an rj45 cable. Cut both in half. Solder and heat shrink the 4 wires in the usb cable to 4 wires in the cat5/6 cable, cut the other 4 short. Go into the other room and connect those same 4 usb wires to the same colored cat5/6 colored wires from the first time. Now you have 2...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I bought one and wired it up like usual. Then I tried to flash the firmware so I could begin troubleshooting relays and crap. It will flash but it has a hard time starting up. I get this. Jan 31 2016 14:42:13 Checking software version on controller... Most of the time I get this after...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Has anyone pulled the old UNO arduino out and put a photon in it's place? I have no interest in an lcd screen or anything like that so I'd like to just pull the uno and maybe replace it with a photon to keep out of the legacy repository. The main thing that pops up when I look at the difference...

Features to look for in a TDS meter

I've got the hm tds ez and it reads 4 straight off my RO unit and has been at 4 for the whole year that I've been running this membrane. Straight off the kingwood, tx tap its 110, ozarka reads about 58. The only weird thing I have noticed is that if the RO water sits around anywhere, like the...

new to competitions - need help categorizing my brews

Enter the same beer in multiple categories. It's more expensive but there's no way to know how the judges will behave IMO.

    Azacca hops

I've used it a couple times and I have to agree that it is more subtle than say something like citra or simcoe. 10 lbs 8.0 oz Munich (BestMÃlz) (12.0 SRM) Grain 1 93.3 % 8.0 oz Honey Malt (25.0 SRM) Grain 2...

    Brew today. Pitch tomorrow?

I do this every time. Getting my wort to pitching temp, especially for lagers, is impossible with my tap water in the summer. Brew sunday, stick it in the fridge, pitch monday afternoon after work.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I hadn't seen those instructions. I haven't looked into it but that post is more than a year old. Perhaps the html from that post is different than what the updated script from the repository is looking for. I'd try sudo tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log in your terminal and then try to hit...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Did you remove all the content from the beer-panel div? Or is it just not loading the correct php file for that div? That JS looks like its trying to draw a graph in a div that doesn't exist. From your page source <div id="beer-panel" class="ui-widget ui-widget-content ui-corner-all"> A...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

So that's what it looks like when the heater you have installed is too powerful. Had to set the hair dryer to lowest settings to get it to stop moving the beer 2 degrees every time it kicked on for the minimum 3 minutes. I can't believe I didn't put one of these things together sooner. I won...

    pH Meter Calibration

1-2 mins maybe, I was right at the point that I needed it and I had a newer brewer over trying to get him started with water chemistry. So I was a bit flustered. Of course everything that could of gone wrong, did go wrong.

    pH Meter Calibration

Looks like it's working again. I tried the battery thing yesterday and it didn't do anything. This time I had it on and popped the batteries out while it was running. Left them out the whole time it took me to mix some buffer solutions, less than 5 mins. Now it is calibrating correctly and...
