    is catty a compliment?

I served a Session Citra IPA at a festival recently and it was interesting to see some folks faces when they tasted it. A low percentage really made that cat piss face, but didn't really say anything. Until a lady made a noise and "the face." The guy behind her in line saw her reaction and asked...

Time to Get Real About Eating Spent Grain

I'm with you, the deer won't touch the spent grain. I've lived several places in my brewing life, city, country, different states, nada. Deer don't touch it. Now chickens will tear that stuff up. I spilled a bunch of malt once, swept it up and dumped it over the fence. Now that's crack to deer...

Smoked Marzen Small Batch on Big Brew Day 2025

We had 5 brewing on site, but we have a local brewery prepare the wort for the club, then we all make something from that. We brew in their parking lot. Several club members just picked wort to brew at home. It's nice as it really limits the stuff you need to haul and speeds up the day. Everyone...

What I did for beer today

Busy weekend. Friday was a local beer festival.set up for that served 3 beers, (imperial red, citra ipa and a galaxy only aussie ale), blew two kegs. Came home that night, unloaded the car, reloaded the car for the big brew day. Local brewery here does the wort for the club and we all brew what...

Dry Hopping : Hops and yeast at the beginning of fermentation ......

What volume of hops would you use to DIP hop on a 5g batch? Looks like about 2oz according to the article. Combine that with about a half gallon of wort (or water)? Also, would you need to keep the DIP hop solution at that 150-170f range for the hour while you're waiting to add the main wort? I...

Transferring recipes from BeerSmith desktop to BeerSmith mobile?

I wish there was the ability to save other files associated with a specific version of a brew, i.e., a score sheet, a picture or maybe a pdf of the original recipe, etc.

First keg pulls are sour and cloudy

Like a lot of us in homebrewing, we are our own worst critics. We are much harder on our own creations and once you get something in your head about a precieved issue, you just can't shake it. Just one more variable to consider/eliminate.

Transferring recipes from BeerSmith desktop to BeerSmith mobile?

Same, build it on my tablet and I use my tablet as I actually brew as I find the app pretty clunky. The app is good for when someone will ask what yeast I used, grain bill, etc., and I can just look right on my phone.

Gravity Chillers with larger wort volume?

I use a plate chiller with a pump. I'm not sure I would use gravity only with it, but I've never tried. I do manually whirlpool, 30 seconds with a spoon, then wait 20 minutes and it forms a nice cone of debris in the center of the kettle. Never clogged the chiller.

First keg pulls are sour and cloudy

You really need to get someone else's opinion, by letting them taste it. Join a homebrew club or let other experienced folks taste it without tainting/telling them your concern or what you precieve.

First keg pulls are sour and cloudy

Did anyone else taste the beer?

    What are you drinking now?

Seems a little early in the season for all the fest beers. Are these all current year releases? Just curious. Thanks for the write ups.

What I did for beer today

Busy week. Pulled 4 kegs for a local festival last Saturday, so had to first sanitize 4 kegs to transfer the beer so it would stay clear while transporting. While all the kegs were drained, I removed the remaining three kegs and scrubbed the inside and floor of keezer. Ran beer line cleaner...

    Need help deciding between fermenters

SS Brew bucket are also stackable, which was one of the reasons I bought them. I use an upright freezer to ferment so they stack on top of each other.

New idea to identify beer/tap lines

Sorry, I was referring to the dispensing side. The "high co2 pour" should have been high carb beers. I swagged everything on my 4mm tubing except for some of the QD's, those were cheap enough. Thought/believe the 2mm id would probably be way too tight.
