    Pano-Matti, my Arduino based controller

This is my 1st ever software that I've done ... there's about 2000 rows of code, I'm not going to share that here, but I hope that even a part that doesn't make any sense makes someone think better ways to do it :drunk: I use 2 sensors to control the mash temp ... The wort off set depends how...

Show us your DIY stir plate!

I used this circuit for the control: http://www.sentex.ca/~mec1995/circ/lantern.htm Although I replaced the power stage with a single FET to make it more efficient and simpler. 5000mL Erlenmeyer.

    Pano-Matti, my Arduino based controller

I don't use the PID-library. I've my own simple algorithm that calculates the heating power (pump ON-time, I've a counter-flow HERMS) based on the wort and mash temperatures. I like it this way, I can set the heating ramp what ever way I want. I've another script that takes control when the mash...

    The HOBBIT......don't bother

Did you know that this film was subsidized a lot by NZ rate payer in hope that all you rich tourist will come here to see the scenery. So, will you? Local actors had to work under minimum pay etc. I've been here for 5 years and I think that this country is 100% fake when it comes to the...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

For a mobile unit :) I'm renting at the moment ... by the way, don't tell to our landlord what's going on in here.

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

It's still work in progress ... I had 2 PID's on it at 1st place ... then the buttons were on the right side of the screen ... then I added the power control pot ... now I'm out of space in the enclosure, I need to build a new one. I really admire people whom are so sure of their design that...

    Automated volume sensing idea/help

Do you see, there's that "Wheatstone Bridge" right there ;) Have anyone tried to build the 2 electrode system? I've seen some discussions about it, but they all measured capacitance rather than impedance. There was issues with heat affecting the readings. Also an AC current is needed for the...

This was already on the other sculpture thread, I didn't know that there was a proper one too ;)

    Easy Steam Infusion Mash System

I tried this too, but I couldn't make it work properly. It was slower than my "normal" HERMS, I think that my steam engine was under powered. The heat was very much concentrated near the steam output, mash needed to be stirred for a good result. Really hard to get the steam jets work so that the...

    DIY convoluted copper

Not with same diameter (15mm) tube. I was able to find note's of ½" CFC with 19mm PVC. This was about 2 times longer than the convoluted. My notes say: "Cooling efficiency when using cooling water at 12C, with approx. 7.5L/min flow: - water in 82.5C - water out 20.9C - gravity fed free flow...

Reverse flow mash tun with CF-HERMS?

Just for the fun of it. I'm not solving problems, I'm creating them. I would be pushing it from the bottom of the mash tun to over come the limits that gravity gives us. A high flow when heating and then tuning the flow down for "a normal herms re-circulation".

Reverse flow mash tun with CF-HERMS?

Has anyone tried to make one? I've been toying with the idea of pumping the wort from the bottom of the mash tun for sometime. It would enable super fast mash heating with CF-HERMS as the gravity fed flow trough the grains wouldn't be restricting the max flow rate. Where I now have max. flow of...

    Automated volume sensing idea/help

Yes it can, that's what I'm planning to do. And then use that info with the Arduino. Try "Wheatstone bridge" in the Google.

    HERMS vs. "Counterflow" HERMS

Your control strategy sounds great. The STC-1000 has a nice small probe with small thermal mass, I guess it has a NTC-resistor inside there at least I managed to fool the controller by replacing the sensor with a resistor. I use STC in a sauna that I build to control the heater. Also have one...

All my recent (Brewtroller) beer has sucked

That's possible the worst place for a sensor. The valve acts like a heat sink and cools the sensor below the actual temperature (laminar flows, turbulence etc.). I've done a lot of testing and it seems to be almost impossible to measure flowing liquids. Check out this thread...

    Automated volume sensing idea/help

I'm waiting to receive AD620's, I bought a cheap bathroom scale already and harvested the load sensors from it. I'll let you know, if it works reliable. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10245

All my recent (Brewtroller) beer has sucked

I don't know anything about Brewtroller but ... I had same issues on my own system, my problems were related with the placement of mash-temperature sensor. It was in a thermowell and that created a huge lag in the mash temperature reading that my controller received -> way too hot mash temps...
