    BIAB draining question

What techniques do you guys use to drain the wort from BIAB? I spin it to create pressure on the grains, but how long are you supposed to wait? For my last 2 batches I have been super high on my grain absorption and my gravities have been way high (1.086 when it should have been 1.052). My...

    What is this stuff?

So I brewed Ed Wort's Bavarian Hefeweizen from Brewmasters Warehouse (great service btw) and it has been in primary for about 10 days now. So last night I went down to grab a gravity reading and there was a thick yellow-ey gelatinous layer on top. It sort of looked like a compacted krausen...

    1st All Grain...and it was a doozy

Holy crap! I can't add either? Ok...so there had to be some reason that it wasn't working well and apparently the problem is me. I'm really much smarter than that...really.

    1st All Grain...and it was a doozy

So I decided to make the jump to All Grain since I have been reading about how the BIAB (with Dunk Sparge) has had great success. So I got a 5 gallon cooler and some paint strainer bags and decided that a SMaSH would be a easy jump in to the deep end. So I went to the LHBS and got 10lbs Pale Ale...

Ain't as good as I once was...

Yeah...I get the pics idea now. Not sure I would have survived if I had said..."hey babe...can you hold this dripping lid for a sec while I run and get the camera for the HBT guys?" Woulda been a good story though. The Notty was part of the Brewer' Best Belgian Tripel kit.

Ain't as good as I once was...

So I decided (last minute on Sunday) to brew a Belgian Tripel kit that I had laying around. This is my 5th brew so while I am new I am not totally new. Anyway, I am having nice little brew session and am just cooking away when I realize that I don't have a hydrometer with me. I look around...

Explain your handle / De construct your avatar

head was a nickname I got in the Navy (worked on the flight deck and the "crainials" weren't big enough) and 7L was the shop designation. I got the email addy way back when and have just kept on using it to keep things simple.

I got an email from the folks @ SODZ about their next meeting (9/21) but I am going to be out of town. I was just checking to see if there were any others that you guys were in and recommended. Cheers.

    Hello from Dublin, OH

Do you guys 'round this way make it to any brew clubs, and if so who? I would like to be able to put something on the calendar so I can plan support for SWMBO and the 5 monkeys.

    Homebrew tech from a pharmacy?

I was googling for some cheap equipment and noticed this site Shrivers Pharmacy, For That Extra Service and Good Health, Think of Us - Zanesville. It looks like they have a ton of stuff at some very reasonable prices (compared to the LHBS). Has anyone used them before? Do they have crazy...

    Hello from Dublin, OH

Just thought I would throw my hat in to the ring as well. I have been lurking here for a while. Getting back in the mix after a good 10 years away (5 kids will do that). I just finished up a partial mash Dead Guy clone (learned alot about yeast amounts too :(). But I'm learning a ton and...
