    Tasty Test Tubes

Anyone else chug the contents of your hydrometer test tubes? I mean, why waste beer even if it's half attenuated, warm, uncarbed, and with krausen globs floating on top? I drank it up last night after taking a reading. MMMMM so good I might just serve it warm when it's actually ready.

    Your better half's biggest foible

OMG that is the life I'm living too. We have an extra bed room, it's knee deep in unwashed clothes and junk. There is a rocking chair and a computer in there somewhere. She can't find anything. I asked her to get a pair of gloves and told her exactly where they were, she yells "there are...

    Leaving starsan in draft lines/taps

Update: After a few days of hanging out to dry, the ends of the vinyl tubes are starting to clear. I'm thinking the haziness is water absorption that takes a while to diffuse out. I might try a hair dryer to accelerate the process.

    Leaving starsan in draft lines/taps

I just recently left some vinyl hoses soaking in Starsan for a week. When I pulled them out they were white, and felt like they had vaseline on them. I hung them to dry, but after 3 days, they are still cloudy and greasy feeling. Did I fubar my hoses?

Freakin' nervous. First brew is tomorrow!

Well, I pulled a sample and it's 1.015. Tastes like a grand cru, with a little bit of a pissy aftertaste (probably the globs of krausen that were in the test jar). I put the lock back on and it's still bubbling. Swmbo likes it too, which might be a problem.

New idea about chilling wort and adding O2

I use an immersion chiller, a cooler, ice, and a PUNY little pump to push the ice water through. I freeze water in pans and dump them in the cooler with some water on brew day. Even with this 110 GPH pump pushing through 60' og 3/8" tubing, I was able to cool of 5 gallons in about 8...

Freakin' nervous. First brew is tomorrow!

Well, 8 days and still bubbling and churning away. It's starting to slow down, but I still have yeast doing loop the loops in the fermenter. I was aware that there would be motion during fermentation, but I was unprepared for just how vigorous it is.

Thank God there is no Latin gay forum by this this name since half the time I bang out this site's address, Google correctly sends me here. Maybe it's Freudian?

Don't worry guys, tube was always in starsan and it has a proper airlock that is bubbling like mad now.

    AHS Kits

Fast shipping and excellent service when I found they sent me the wrong carboy cap. However, I found out they shipped me Amber LME instead of wheat extract AFTER I got my Belgian "White" into the fermenter. I think the shipping guy might have been hitting the taps a little early...

Yea, it's a sock. How else am I supposed to keep the tube of yeast in the carboy? Oh wait. you are suppose to DUMP the yeast in, not put the whole tube in!! Just kidding, I think it's an extension cord in the background. Yeah, the back side of the garage is a wreck. Well, actually...

Blow off tube in a jar? What? The carboy cap has two connections, I just attached the hose to both of them. Is that wrong?

Freakin' nervous. First brew is tomorrow!

Well, about half way through the boil I sent swmbo to the store to pick up a 12 of PBR. There was much rejoicing. Gravity came out to 1.051, a bit heavier than the original wheat recipe. Carboy showed 5 gallons dead on. Sanitized AND boiled the immersion chiller. I pretty much worked out...

Freakin' nervous. First brew is tomorrow!

BWAAAA HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I knew there would be a screw up, I didn't expect it to be someone elses! All my friends kept saying that's a little dark for a white. Someone shipped me 7 lbs of amber extract rather than the wheat extract the recipe calls for. Cascade at 30 and 50 minutes...

I came in this thread just to make sure someone "appropriately" responded.

Thanks guys. I'm an equipment whore. Planning, specing and collecting stuff for a project is my favorite part. I've already started collecting crap for AG. UGH. I chose the Belgian White partially because I knew it would be ready quickly, but I figured that since I was going to keg it...
