    1 pack or 2?

    My 5 gallon batch has been in the fermenter a little over a week. Still a little activity going on. I'm usually good for leaving my beers in the fermenter for a good 2 - 3 weeks. Not sure if I'm going to dry hop in primary or move to secondary yet.

    I can see what you mean by this. But this is the way many "green brewers" get into experimenting with recipes and building their own. So to this I say: to each their own. That's the beauty of this addiction.

    I played around on Brewers Friend and found that by adding 1# of corn sugar will only drop the IBU's by 10. If I add an extra 1/2 oz of hops at 20 mins remaining, they make up for this loss. With that being said, I am going to go back and put in 1/2# of light DME and equivalent corn sugar...

    Good explanation, thanks. I'm adding some corn sugar to up the abv some, so I'm going to go with us-05 to get full attenuation. I may use 04 when not wanting to dry out as in a stout.

    Cool, thanks! I'm always spooked about under pitching with dry yeast. But I've also read where there are double the number of viable cells in a dry packet as there are in a tube or pack of liquid yeast (pre starter) . Any truth to that?

    I'm guessing this matters less with a super hoppy pale ale as compared to a stout, which you kinda want the sweetness.
