Issues with OG...should I be worried?

8% Cream Ale...that's not too much of a "lawnmower beer" is it haha Anyways, yes I did follow the recipe sans the addition of orange zest, that was the only alteration. Very simple extract recipe 3/4lb Gambrinus Honey Malt 1/4lb Belgian Biscuit 6# Pilsen Malt Syrup 1oz Cluster (60 min)...

Issues with OG...should I be worried?

I had 2.5G boil and the added water to bring it to 5G in the carboy but the reading I took was before adding water...would that have been it? I just got the hydrometer today and brewed the cream ale without orange zest before....tasted awesome!

Issues with OG...should I be worried?

I just brewed a cream ale recipe I found except with the addition of 1oz orange zest with 5 min left in the boil. The expected OG on the recipe was 1.040 and I'm looking at around 1.080... Should the orange zest throw it off this much? Or did I mess something up? Note - the hydrometer isn't...

    Flavor addittions

I added 1# honey to a brown ale with 10 min left in the boil last week. Today I'm trying 1 oz sweet orange peel and 1/2 oz coriander to a cream ale with 5 min left. We'll see how they turn out, but it's my understanding that the longer it's in the boil the more flavor is burned off. Of...

Adding orange peel to Cream Ale

Did you do that in addition to the orange or just stand alone? Thanks for the advice!

Adding orange peel to Cream Ale

Awesome, and have you added that ounce at flameout, a minute left, 5 min? I know with honey the longer its in the boil the more flavor gets boiled off, I'd assume its the same deal with orange peel.

Adding orange peel to Cream Ale

I'm looking for more of the blue moon amount of flavor....thanks!

Adding orange peel to Cream Ale

Thanks! I was debating adding at the end of boil...did that with honey in a brown ale in a brew last week. I'd prefer the sweet orange flavor but don't want the beer too sweet, that's why I was thinking a little bitter to balance out. How much total did you add at then end of boil for 5G? I...

Adding orange peel to Cream Ale

I am looking to add a little more flavor to my Cream Ale and have heard adding a mixture of sweet and bitter orange peel in the secondary fermentor is best. A) Is adding both (bitter and sweet) beneficial or should I stick with only one? B) If I add both, what should the ratio be and how much...
