    electronic valves

I'm not sure why there don't seem to be 3 way valves that have a shut-off position...seems very useful, and probably not *that* expensive to implement. Solenoid valves typically have a small pin that shuts off flow...when you energize the solenoid it pulls the pin so that liquid flows. The...

    Backyard Lagering

Lager fermentation is (relatively) easy to do this way. Get a big laundry tub, put your carboy/bucket in it and fill the tub with cold water. the bigger mass will buffer temperature fluctuations pretty well as long as outside temps aren't swinging wildly or we have a heat wave...if so, you can...

New Belgium glasses for those interested

Looks like they are out of the 16oz glasses :( FWIW, I bought a set 2 years ago and they are my favorite beer glasses. I was thinking about ordering another pair, but looks like I waited too long. These have a really nice shape, heavy glass, the laser inscription in the bottom is...

Belgian dark strong recipe help - AG

sounds like a good plan. he he...people have obsessed about cloning the Westy beer...tons of good info in there, but the thread has grown to the point where the signal to noise is pretty low. I've only had to drastically raise the temp once...a beer that really stalled out and needed it HOT...

Belgian dark strong recipe help - AG

Belgian Dark Strong is my favorite style too (both to drink and to brew). I won a gold medal recently with my BDS using the recipe for Westvleteren 12 that has a massive thread on Homebrew Talk (search for 'The Pious') I used the 'New World' recipe that derives a lot of flavor from specialty...

    electronic valves

These look great (and the price is right) anyone used them with Brewtroller? Which wiring did you order. From the OSCSYS store site it looks like they sell ones with the CR03 config.

    Camco 1500 watt ULWD Elements

Hmm...from the Rheem website, it says that the element is made from Stainless Steel and coated with an "outer sheath of Incology® 800" from the looks on the Camco one I have (and reading other threads) mine is copper with the same Incology coating. Looks like there is already a thread on...

    Camco 1500 watt ULWD Elements

D'oh! wish I would have found this thread before purchasing a Camco 02853/02852 element off of Amazon! Now debating if I should return, or live with it. for those of you who own/live with the 02852/3 element, have you been otherwise happy with it? Did you clean the element down to the...

Designing a Bare Bones Electric Brewing System (Diagrams inside)

Why not use your "Grant" as a HLT? wouldn't it be easier to pump hot water from your kettle into that tank and pump wort (first runnings) into the kettle? that way you really only have to clean the kettle and the MLT, not the 3rd vessel as it only held water. sure, you may want to insulate it...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

    I think my recipe was pretty stock for the new world version: I made a 6.5 gallon batch and estimated 70% efficiency (probably hit 65%) S.G. 1.080 F.G. 1.014 14 lbs 11.6 oz Pilsner (2 Row) Bel (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 73.1 % 1 lbs 2.1 oz Caramunich II (Weyermann) (63.0 SRM) Grain 2 5.6 % 9.0 oz...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

I took first place in Belgian Strong with the Pious New World recipe (and over a year aging) in the Malt Madness Homebrew competition!!! (584 entries in the comp, 30 in Belgian Strong Ales) This is one of the big homebrew competitions in Eastern Pennsylvania. I was VERY thrilled. Thanks for...

    Peanut butter beer?

I did an attempt at a peanut butter cup beer using robust porter as the base style about a year ago. I probably posted in a thread here about it. It turned out good, but not great. doubt I would attempt a repeat. I ended up using 1 jar (6 oz?) of PB2 powdered peanut butter and 5 oz of...

    Obama is a homebrewer

I don't know why there are so many haters... FACT: Homebrew was/is being produced in the White House at the President's request. FACT: Homebrew was/is being consumed by the standing President FACT: Homebrewing is being promoted by the standing President In almost everything a president...

    Obama is a homebrewer

Compared to some of the other petitions on the site this one should be a soft ball! Good or bad it doesn't really matter. The point is that it is a beer brewed IN THE WHITE HOUSE by (or with) a standing PRESIDENT. I signed the petition...any positive PR for homebrewing is a great thing!

South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 31!

Search for the threads on 'The Pious' new world and old world (two different approaches to cloning the same beer). Lots of folks cumulative work done in attempt to clone Westvleteren 12...delicious beer!

    lansdale Philadelphia pa craft

Not quite sure what you are looking for (local beers not available in Boston? Rare bottles? Just good beer?) but I will try to help. I assume you are flying into PHL and driving to Lansdale, right? There are obviously LOTS of great beer options in Philly, but quite a few less in Lansdale...
