    False bottom for Sanke keg?

Right... Good point. If I'm going to build this, I would like to have the ability to do step mashing. I wouldn't be able to do that with the one from the Homebrewstuff.com without scorching the grain. What do you think about step mashing with the other one? Seems like that sits about 1 1/2"...

Brutus owners, what solenoids did you use?

Thank you sir - appreciate your help. I'm going with the honeywells.

    False bottom for Sanke keg?

Hey guys, I'm looking into different false bottom options for a a sanke keggle. Right now I'm trying to decide between these two options (if I'm missing another option please let me know) The weldless false bottom from Homebrewstuff.com...

Brutus owners, what solenoids did you use?

I was just thinking about it... The honeywell standing pilot gas valves are designed for natural gas, would they require modification to be used with propane? Can they be? Has anyone used honeywell valves on a brutus propane rig?

Brutus owners, what solenoids did you use?

Awesome - thanks for the responses. I like the idea of the honeywell with the standing pilot. If a breeze blows out your standing pilot with an asco solenoid you could end up with quite a fireball on your hands- Or rather in your face. $60 is pretty affordable, I thought the honeywells...

Brutus owners, what solenoids did you use?

Hey all, I'm in middle of building a brutus system, and like like a lot of folks I've being seeing online, I have some questions regarding the asco valves. asco no longer makes the valve in Lonnie Mac's design, and I've seen a number of folks using asco's fuel-gas solenoids instead, others...

I think I over Oaked my beer...

:o My apologies - I think using that term-age is a bad habit of mine. I really appreciate the suggestions; I think I'll just let this brew mellow for a while. Cheers

I think I over Oaked my beer...

Thanks guys both are good ideas. I have a few other kegs on tap that I could mix with it to reduce the oaky flavor, or maybe I'll let it rest. I would like to serve it for this party in a week, and as-is is a drinkable beer, but not the beer I envisioned. Luckily I racked it to a third...

I think I over Oaked my beer...

All - I brewed a Christmas ale a few months ago. Well I got the brilliant idea to add some Oak chips I had to the secondary to give it that oak barrel aged flavor. Well the chips sat in the secondary, and the secondary sat in a back closet in my basement for the past couple months...

    Cider Question....

When I put a tsp of brown sugar in the glass I had a very nice and well balanced cider, but who wants to do that for every glass. Thanks I appreciate the help

    Cider Question....

Thanks I suppose if I sweeten it, keg it and put the keg in the fridge that would halt the fermentation. Makes sense, should have thought of that. So apple juice concentrate... I'll give it a go Thanks again

    Cider Question....

Hey all, I'm hoping someone give me some pointers with my cider. I made a batch about 3 weeks ago following I recipe, I believe I found on these boards. Can't seem to track it down however... It was 5 gallons of pasteurized cider, 2 or 3 different types. I added about 20oz of honey, a...

    Fly vs. Batch sparging

Seems it -- I watched some videos on youtube and it looks easy and just as good. Next brew I'm batching

    Fly vs. Batch sparging

I'm new to AG brewing and thought I'd ask you all which you prefer. From what I've read in books I got the impression fly sparging is the better (aka more advanced) technique, but from looking around here get the impression batch is just as good. In the few batches I have done, I've fly...

    Affordable grain mill?

Thanks for the insight guys - sounds like either will do the trick. I like the idea of using a drill instead of hand cranking, I cranked out 12lbs of grain the other day and while it wasn't intolerable, it was a good workout.

    Affordable grain mill?

Thanks guys -- both look like good options. I remember reading about the crank and stein mill in a book, but had forgotten about it until I just saw the name. Really when it comes down to it, this is something that will be operational for some time to come so dropping $125 is justified when...

Didn't reach my original S Gravity what should i do?

Thanks for the insight. I've read up on AG brewing, but only done it a few times now, it's good to get feedback from people who know. I pitched my yeast on Sunday and won't be back in town until Friday (5 days after pitching) is it too late to add some boiled wort (DME) to bring the...

Didn't reach my original S Gravity what should i do?

I encountered a similar issue with my last batch. What is the cause of missing the OG, sugar extraction? Is that a mash temp thing? I thought I nailed the mash temp/time on my last batch but still fell about .02 short... Sorry for the naivety - this a new endeavor for me.

    Affordable grain mill?

Hey all - - I'm on the lookout for an affordable grain mill. Does anyone have any suggestions? Through some googling I've seen some adjustable dual roller mills for about $125 or so... Is that pretty much the standard price for a good mill, or am I missing one? Additionally, I've read...
