    DC area visit

I would recommend Ocelot about by Dulles, if you're out there, for some amazing IPAs and barrel aged stuff. Was really blown away when I went there a few weeks ago and think they could give the breweries in DC a run for their money for sure. In DC, my favorite is Atlas, then DC Brau, then 3...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've added a trip to Richmond to my list it's only slightly closer to me than Philly. I've been to Bluejacket and all the other DC breweries and I like them just searching for a specific NE IPA right now. I haven't been to Aslin but I'll check them out. I live right by the National Cemetery in...

    Grainfather!!

Yep. The return process is simple and free. Mine was "shipped and sold by Amazon" so I don't know if that makes a difference on the return process but it might. You could call before ordering or actually order over the phone and try to sweet talk them into overnighting or something.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thanks. Yeah I think I'll have to just go there. Tired Hands looks to be the closest and I still haven't been to Philly.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Can you share how you obtained those NEIPAs? I'm itching to get my hands on some but am coming up empty in the DC region. Any help would be appreciated.

    Grainfather!!

Believe me, I do. This was a wedding registry gift from my wedding party. I am blessed to have two stores within 15 minutes of me and I go to them for all my brewing needs, equipment and ingredients. I love being able to walk to one and grab a small something I need. My online ordering days...

    Grainfather!!

The thickness was just more of an observation. That plus the very scant packaging I think is leading to a lot of the units arriving damaged. I read about some on this thread and also in the reviews on Amazon. You think the factory would package a $900 product very tightly and securely... Going...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I am looking to throw this beer into the last of my brewing for an upcoming wedding. Can anyone tell me what the quickest turnaround time they have experienced/believe is possible for this beer? Will likely be bottle condition instead of kegging as the clarity obviously doesn't matter. Very...

    Grainfather!!

Received my Grainfather from Amazon yesterday. Both the kettle and the basket were dented. I've got to say the packaging from the factory looks woefully insufficient. Very limited bubble wrap and practically nothing else to keep the sides of the kettle protected from a drop or a throw. I was...

Trying to decide on a smoker

I picked up a hardly used 18" WSM on Craigslist for a price I couldn't pass up. I had been smoking some shoulders and ribs on an 18" Jumbo Joe for a few years and got tired of being limited. This smoker may be the only model I ever buy again. I would probably get the 22" if I had to buy a...

Ballast Point - Victory at Sea. This is pure beer nirvana.

Why aren't they craft beer? Do you know their production has exceeded the definition of a craft brewery? Or is that your opinion?

    Carbonation causing color change?

I noticed my Red Baron capper will not seal on the short, fat bottles so I don't use those at all. I have never broken a bottle neck and that is the only issue I have had with my capper so I just don't use those bottles. No idea why the color is changing in the taller bottles though. Odd.

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

But CO2 and O2 are distinct gases. I understand the keg should be naturally carbonated to storing/serving pressure, but that doesn't explain exactly why the O2 (up to 30ppm) will not dissolve into the beer and become equilibrium with the CO2 cylinder 02 content but will somehow remain at .15ppm.

Oxidation When Dry Hopping, I Think

What was the quantity of hops in the boil? and dry hops? Also, what water are you using? Straight from the tap? I had a similar off flavor for all my IPAs and narrowed it down to my water source. I switched to RO with mineral additions and no more off-tasting IPAs. Check this out...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

I still don't understand. You are under 30ppm after natural carbonation but once you hook up the CO2 (30ppm) to dispense, how do the dissolved gases not come to equilibrium? Are you saying that the CO2 in the headspace (30ppm) will not dissolve into the beer and the beer will somehow remain...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

But that does not answer the question of dispensing the beer after natural carbonation. It has to be pushed with CO2, which stated can and probably does have 30ppm O2, which will dissolve in the beer will it not?

    Did I oxidize my RIS?

So telling him his beer will taste only fine and because fine does not equal great (science) must mean you know it will not taste great. Do you offer your psychic beer quality services to breweries and homebrewers? Answering his beer would taste fine in the context of his question would mean...

    Did I oxidize my RIS?

Nowhere did I say that oxidation does not exist. I don't believe it is of much concern unless someone goes out of their way to oxidize beer above normal transferring between vessels. Your first post in this thread basically agrees that while it may have been oxidized it will taste fine. I had...
