    Best way to maintain temps?

Thanks. The last 2 especially made me feel better. I targeted 154, striked at 158, and ended at 148 after an hour.

    IPA hater wants to reform!

Suspicious? Really? The Mr Beer kit came with the IPA. I was just starting out, and went with what was easy and... basically free to start with. I didn't know I would utterly hate it, so I just went with it. Also, I know IPAs are extremely popular nowadays. But I also know that their are...

    Best way to maintain temps?

I didn't think of that. That is a lot of air that needs to be reheated everytime I lift the lid! I guess that is one downside to buying an "overkill sized" kettle. At least I felt it was overkill when I bought it!

SNPA = Sierra Nevada Pale Ale? Thanks

    IPA hater wants to reform!

What do you mean? If memory serves me correctly, there are 50 of them in the craft brew section of the liquor store.?.?

    IPA hater wants to reform!

Kinda the exact opposite direction I was hoping for. I want an IPA that might change my mind, not make me continue to avoid them for another 5+ years.

    Best way to maintain temps?

So no stirring midway through the mash? I am sure that is where some heat escaped, but I didn't think it would be that much. I am using a 17.5g kettle, and the house I am renting has the smallest stove known to man! Not that I would want to try and pickup that kettle with 9g of water anyways!

    First hop bag

Thanks for the sanity check! I didn't squeeze it by hand, but I did mash it against the side of the pot with my stirrer every time I stirred.

    IPA hater wants to reform!

I am pretty stuck in my ways, and a picky drinker. So far, I really only like wheats and lagers. Mind you, I was scarred by my first Mr Beer IPA, and never gave any of them another try! I now want to expand my horizons. I have 8 real full scale brews under my belt. I am fermentation...

    Best way to maintain temps?

In my first BIAB brew, I ended the mash 6 degrees lower than my target. What is the best cost efficient way to negate this without scorching the bag? I am on propane btw.

    First hop bag

This last brew I used a hop bag for the first time. Prior I just threw them into the kettle. The bag was handmade from a scrap piece if voile, leftover from my BIAB bag. When I threw them directly into the kettle, they seemed to completely dissolve. Mind you, I am sure they ended up as trub...

    First BIAB Brew. Hefeweizen

Yesterday I brewed my first BIAB using a bunch of new equipment. New to the brew was: 17.5g kettle with spigot and thermometer. Bayou Classic propane burner. Cheap Amazon BIAB bag lined with voile. Voile hop bag. 25' copper immersion chiller. Fermentation fridge with temperature...

    Trouble with pitching temp

I was sanitary, although I found I needed to sanitize very little with my new setup. Everything kettle wise sanitized from heat. I dunked the chiller with 10 minutes on the boil. Basically the only thing I needed to sanitize was the carboy and airlock.

    Trouble with pitching temp

I just finished my first BIAB brew. It was a hef, and appeared to go well. I have one issue though. I brewed outside in 85 degree weather. I used my wort chiller for the first time. I stalled at about 115 degrees. I just could not get it any lower without waiting a long time. So I...

    First BIAB hef advise

Just out of curiosity then. Why do multiple recipes online suggest using 1.7 packs of liquid 3056?
  16. S

    First BIAB hef advise

Yes, fermentation will be at 64. I didn't plan on adding 2 whole packs. Just one and a partial. How much would you guys suggest?

    First BIAB hef advise

Hello, I am preparing to brew my first BIAB brew. Here is my recipe for a 5.5g batch. 6 lb Wheat malt 4 lb Pilsner malt 1.7 packs of Wyeast 3056 18g Hallertaur 4.4 AA When I went to buy my ingredients from the LHBS, I found that they didn't have my liquid yeast. They gave me...

    Which Hallertaur?

Just got back from the LHBS. The AA was 4.4. So I bought 0.7 and will measure it to 18g on my own.

    Which Hallertaur?

Thanks! I am brewing a standard German hef btw. Just trying to figure out how much to add to get an IBU of about 12 in a 5.5g batch. 6 lb Wheat malt 4 lb Pilsner malt 1.7 packs of Wyeast 3056 ? oz Hallertaur
  20. S

    Which Hallertaur?

I am using a brew app, and there are 3 different versions of Hallertaur listed. What is the most common version/alpha rating bought at the LHBS, and more than likely, will they know which one they are selling me?
