    Kenmore Keezer build, 8.8 cu.ft.

I appreciate everyone's comments. I think I've found a solution to my original question though. Noticed this morning that I should be able to route my temp sensor through the drain hole in the floor of my chest freezer.

    Kenmore Keezer build, 8.8 cu.ft.

I have not built the collar yet. I am leary about drilling through the compressor hump too! That's why I am asking the collective wisdom on this forum... LOL ( ; I will be building a collar soon, but would like to avoid passing wires through it if possible. Thanks for your reply.

    Kenmore Keezer build, 8.8 cu.ft.

Hey there fellow home brewers! I've recently started kegging and am in the process of building a keezer. I picked up an 8.8 cu. ft. chest freezer during a President's Sale at Sears. Then I started scouring the DIY forums for build ideas and settled in on a clean build design. I've already...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Darth Vader - Black IPA

Update: This batch with Pacman yeast turned out to be stellar! So drinkable after just a few weeks in kegs versus having to wait for about a month of bottle conditioning. Only thing I need to work on with my IPA's is getting hop aroma to carry through to the finished product. I've tried...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Darth Vader - Black IPA

This recipe is one that I almost always have to deal with krausen coming out of the air lock. So much so that I bought a bigger fermenter, like an 8 gallon bucket that wine makers like to use.

Adding 2lb of Dextrose to the boil

I make IPA's all the time. I am just getting into figuring out how to make hard cider and noticed your post. 10lbs of malt is going to make a weak IPA... like 4 to 5% ABV ( ; You have a TON of Dextrose?! WTH? Did you switch over to kegging and give up bottling? Add two pounds, it won't...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Darth Vader - Black IPA

Update: This batch I made with Pacman on 1/13/18 went from 1.065 down to 1.013 in 4 weeks. Just kegged it up today with Le Dry Hops! 6.8%ABV

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Darth Vader - Black IPA

Had the same experience the first time I brewed this one too. I suppose you could scale back on the grains a bit to adjust the O.G. down. I chose to get a bigger ferment bucket instead, and I typically will put 6gal to 6.5gal into my ferment bucket and hit about 1.065 for O.G. ( ; just brewed...

Need Input on Potential Equipment Purchase...

Pass.... I bought an 8Gal brew pot against the advice of my local home brewing store. I used that pot for a short while, then found a good deal on a 10Gal Spike brewing kettle through their bargain basement. Now I have this 8Gal kettle sitting around gathering dust!

Widmer Drop Top Amber Ale (clone) AG

Naw, I haven't made it back to this recipe in a long time. Once I got a pallet for IPA' s it seems like I never got back to the Amber Ale clone...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Yep the taste is unremarkable at bottling or kegging. It needs to condition for some time before it starts to shine. I find myself adjusting hop additions on recipes all the time for just the reason you mentioned. OG ends up being a wee bit higher than published. Oh well, play with it until...

DIY Tick Repellent for my Yard?

I wonder if chickens like ticks? The reason I mention this is my wife picked up 5 of them last year and I noticed they roam around the property all day eating bugs. They pick the bugs out of the firewood pile, around the foundation of the house, throughout the yard... it almost seems like they...

    CPVC Manifold Help

I pretty consistently see efficiency in the 70's to 80's, and from what I can tell there is not too much difference from fly sparging versus batch sparging. Maybe a few points higher with batch sparging but I lose a little time with that method. When I fly sparge it saves me 15- 20 minutes...

    CPVC Manifold Help

I would think what you have so far should work great! Just close it up and start using it. I built a smaller manifold in this thread: Yet another... Xtreme mash tun cooler build and I don't have any issues with channeling. Always get great efficiency on brew day :mug:

Spike Brewing Bargain Cave Updated! Save up to $600

I have a luv/hate relationship with your Bargain Cave specials... I luv taking advantage of them when they show up from time to time... I hate that it typically is the factor that makes up my mind to finally upgrade my equipment. 80-90 percent efficiency sounds like a good problem to have to...

I remove hot break as it forms....

I used to skim, before I started adding Irish moss and whirl pooling, but since I've started doing that I don't bother with it any longer. I stopped doing that about the same time I invested in a kettle with a drain port so that piece of equipment upgrade probably precipitated the change...
