    Man, I love Apfelwein

She used Montrachet, as specified in the recipe .... do you think that Champagne yeast would have been a better choice? Maybe next time she'll use that!

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I made this a couple of years ago, and it went well, tasted great and everyone loved it! BUT..... SWMBO just made another 5 gal, EXACTLY according to the same original recipe, and it's been Krausening for two days ..... I finally had to install a blow-off tube (the bottle of water is now...

    Corny keg fermenting

Thanks! Since I haven't had any problems with cloudy beers, (most of mine are dark, so that isn't an issue), I haven't really looked into the gelatin fining - heard of it a couple of times, seen people mention it in posts, but that's about all. I've only made a pale ale or two, but plenty of...

    Corny keg fermenting

I need to research more into fining with Gelatin .... we can buy Kosher, Organic beef gelatin online, is the same kind of gelatin that we would need for fining?

The Homebrew Recipe Bible: Book Review

I've got so many brewing books on the shelf now, if I get another, SWMBO may kick me out! LOL. Mine go back as far as Pappazian's first, and even one from Dave Miller (siphoning by mouth?), but after reading Yooper's review, I may have to get this one surreptitiously and sneak it onto the shelf...

    Corny keg fermenting

I don't have a pressure relief valve, so that's out ..... I haven't looked into a "spunding valve??" ---- I don't even know what that is or what it does; so I don't know what that will do for me .... I like the idea of using my 'Big-Mouth Bubbler' for the early-primary/high-krausen and then...

    Corny keg fermenting

Thanks for that drawing ... that's a great idea! :ban: I've got a lot of fittings with old reinforced coke hose attatched, so I'll have to remove the hoses (probably 10 or 15 years old, it's been quite a while since my old broke-down saloon has been in operation, and the coke kegs, fittings...

    Corny keg fermenting

Yeah, I looked at what was online and they were upwards of $25.00, so I just took an old 13/16 deep socket and my angle grinder and made my own - I think it will work as well as those commercially machined ones - it's nice and tight on the pins .... I just haven't actually taken any of them...

6 Beginner Beer Recipes and Styles

Thanks, good article! No Saison or Sours for me, but I have a lot of raw Montana Wheat I'd put into the Hefe .... I use a bit in each wheat beer I brew - after all, it was free, and I don't waste nuttin"!

    Corny keg fermenting

I read recently, that someone mentioned that you could prevent the clogging by just removing the poppet and/or removing the post and getting a hose that fits over the threads so you use it in 'blow-off' fashion .... IDK! I haven't got that far into it yet ;>) - still working on my brewroom ...

    Easy Wide Mouth Bubbler Modification

I had problems with my big mouth bubbler the first time I used it. I called up NB and they send me out a new-style lid for free. (Universal Lid - shown on p.17 in Midwest Supplies Catalog, Late Winter 2017). I've never had a problem since! The old style was screw-on, the new style has 3 seals...

    Corny keg fermenting

Thanks, that's what I'll do! Like I've said on a couple of threads/posts, I'm a bottler, NOT a kegger, so I don't know a whole lot about kegging, but I'm researching and learning. I see a couple of posts after yours (SeeMont, guyg and patthebrewer), that seem to say to use the gas fitting on...

    sierra Nevada Blindfold Black IPA

I DO buy the "regional name" argument/discussion like "pop, or soda" thing. I like the idea of Cascadia, since I grew up in the area, long before the idea of the 'State of Cascadia' became popularized because of dissatisfaction with the governing of Western Washington, Western Oregon, and...

    Recipe Wanted, Oakshire's O'Dark 30

Yeah, I was looking for the AG version, but maybe, unless someone comes up with an AG, I'll try to convert that one - my thanks to you! I don't remember the wheat, but it's been a few years, and at my age ........

    Paint-ball gas tanks

From what I saw, I'm a little bit long in the tooth to be doing that .... I'd much rather go out with the .22 cal single shot and shoot rabbits, squirrels, crows, etc., but I don't even do that anymore! I'd rather stay home, watch old '40's, '50's and '60's movies from when I was young, while...

    Recipe Wanted, Oakshire's O'Dark 30

I've lost my May/June 2011 BYO (which had the cloned recipe), in a move between Tennessee and Montana. I'd appreciate it if someone could PM me OR quote it in a post here, so I can make it again. It was a great Cascadian Dark Ale that I didn't even need to tweak! Thanks!

    Paint-ball gas tanks

I thought you guys always played these games in the woods - WOW, those matches look intense! I had no idea that paintball was so well organized ... It looks like a young person's game, so I'm 50 years out of it! Kudos to you young folk. :D I'll definitely stay on the porch and have a homebrew...

    Paint-ball gas tanks

Thanks all, I'll see if there is a date on them, but if I wasted 5 bucks, at least I got the ammo can for a ****y prize! If they're out of date, I'll sell them for scrap - at least it sounds like I can safely buy new ones, charged up or not, without worrying about some kind of oil. I appreciate...

    Corny keg fermenting

I think what you did is similar to these - http://www.homebrewing.org/Cornelius-Keg-Lid-for-Secondary-Fermenter_p_999.html https://www.kegglebrewing.com/products/fermenting-lid-for-corny-keg They look like a steal at $10 each, so I have been planning to buy one or two of these, but I was...
