How Do I Take a Gravity Sample?

Thanks for the responses. I think I will give it until this weekend before taking a sample. Somebody please tell me that brewing teaches you patience. I eagerly await everyone's response...

How Do I Take a Gravity Sample?

My porter has been in the primary for a little over a week and the airlock has settled down. Is it ok to take the lid off and use a sanitized turkey baster to take a sample? Will this introduce too much oxygen? If I have to check the gravity over a couple of days to ensure that it is done...

    Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale

Yeah the only reason I first tried it was because we were floating the river and I needed cans. I only bought 6 because I was reluctant and thought Shiner was the safer bet. I ended up rationing them the whole weekend!

Do I need to condition at 55 Degrees?

I believe the recipe is from "North American Clone Brews". I don't actually have the book, the LHBS ran a copy of the recipe for me. If I keep the temp at 68F, is it reasonable to expect that it would be ready after 2 weeks in the primary, 2 weeks in the Secondary, and 3 weeks in bottles?

Do I need to condition at 55 Degrees?

I am following an extract clone recipe for Sierra Nevada (honey) Porter and it has the following instructions: "Ferment at 68F for 2 weeks, then transfer to secondary fermenter and condition cool (50-55F) for 3 to 4 weeks. Bottle and age at 50-55F for 3 weeks." The reason I would rather...

    Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale

Thanks for the link Maxhavoc! Sounds like someone who knows what they are doing would be able to figure it out, haha. I, on the other hand, am relatively new and don't think experimenting is the best idea for me.

    Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale

This is my newest obsession. Has anyone else tried it? It is from a small, young brewery in Conroe, TX. I would love to be able to try to match this using extract but I wouldn't have the first clue. If you live in Texas and haven't tried it you are definitely missing out! But the only...

    Top Up Secondary?

My honey porter has been in the primary fermenter (bucket) for 1 week and I plan to rack to my secondary (carboy) in another week and condition at 55 degrees for 3 weeks. When I rack to my carboy I will have a lot of airspace at the top, should I add water to bring the level to within a...
