    Grainfather!!

Brewed my first batch on new GF, went great. My first all grain brew in fact. 70% efficiency and could push up with a better crush. Went very smoothly and equipment worked exactly like the videos etc. Thank you all for your advice and tips from previous posts. I was very prepared and all...

    Grainfather!!

Making sure I have this, changing hysteresis to 1* will make for more accurate holding of desired mash temps. Which is one of the whole darn reasons we all got Grainfather in the first place. Cool! Thanks a lot man. Also regarding the "*/rst " button in the left lower corner...grainfather...

    Grainfather!!

Thanks all for your input on earlier questions. GF showed up today, put it together and will clean and get in running tomorrow. Ordered from AIH, free shipping. Looks sturdy, well designed (as expected) and came in perfect condition. What does the group think of the additional sparge water...

    Grainfather!!

Thanks to all contributors to this thread. Have learned a great deal from you all. Ordered my GF yesterday after a lot of research and am excited to get it in action. Couple questions: If an extension cord is needed could anyone share what they think is "best"? GF cord is 3 feet long so I...

    Grainfather!!

Thanks to all contributors regarding the GF. I'm strongly looking into purchasing one because I love brewing INSIDE with my family not out in the driveway for 3 hours. One question I have is what kind of "water in" attachments come with the GF? Heard perhaps there were several TIA- PCL

Different kind of temperature control question

I did an Australian sparking ale which BYO mag recommended ferment up to 74 degrees (Coopers Ale yeast). Just to see what would happen I set my ferment temp controller at 74 high max and 70 low. Beer was supposed to have a slight sour apple flavor (undoubtedly from the acetaldehyde) but this...

    Cold Brew Concentrate

I've done my own cold brew coffee for stouts but would try this. Also dosing to taste in the keg is by the the best way to adjust the flavor you're looking for. For aroma I like "dry beaning" in the keg. Or throw a fresh bean in the beer glass which is a nice touch

What I did for beer today

Poured my first draft of homebrew after bottling for 3 years. Was delicious and easy. Should have changed over years ago

What's the best way to attached the temperature controller's therometer on fermenter?

I am working on putting together my fermentation chamber, and this thermowell vs. side-taped thermometer has been very helpful. Thank you all. Question: I was looking into heating options for my chamber. Initally I was thinking brew belt (for several reasons) and thermowell. Now that I am...

    What's your profession?

Trauma surgeon. Once I started brewing I realized that the organic chemistry I took wasn't a colossal waste of time!

    Preparing "raw" wheat

I haven't gotten into all-grain yet, just doing a partial mash. Time constraints at this juncture don't allow for anything else. It's a Weihenstephaner clone (I'm sure it won't be dead on being only partial mash but hopefully close enough). I did a dunkel Heffeweissbier based on...

    Preparing "raw" wheat

Thanks for your help! I have a good ratio of 2-row to wheat (2:1) which will be more than adequate. Your experience with the milling is really appreciated, I need to do a better job on that. May use a blender gently vs heavy rolling pin. - PCL
