    growing hops in VA?

    @Olifant: nice setup - looks like it took a bit of elbow grease! All 3 of my plants from last year are popping up with leaves now. Good luck with your new venture!

    Ginger Beer

    I like this kind if addition to hbt. Root beer would be an interesting one, too. I've been curious if there are any alcoholic ginger or root (originally sassafras root, I believe) beers, but it looks like this at least partially answers that question.

    I planted 3 varieties, but admittedly a bit late - in the middle of June. Cascade, Columbus, and Brewer's Gold. None have produced cones, which I have read is typical the first year. However, the plants have steadily grown larger and are very healthy. The former has been the slowest, but still...
