    Cranberry ginger shandy

Just a thought, but I'd think a little fresh, grated ginger in primary would go a long way. I've been brewing the hell out of some ginger beer (crowd favorite) and all the ginger is in primary, and ALL the flavor survives primary. :mug:

recommendations for keezer that will hold 3 carboys

What's the diameter and type of your carboys? Glass? I recently scored a Magic Chef 6.9cuft chest freezer from Home Depot that will hold three 5 gallon Better Bottles or three of the 6.5 gallon plastic Big Mouth Bubblers (with about a 10" collar). The fit is SNUG, though. I don't think it'd fit...

Nothing coming out of my keg? Ginger Beer

Ginger is stringy, a total PITA when it gets where you don't want it. Instead of blaming a raisin, my guess would be enough ginger fibers got through the mesh and are clogging either the inlet on the "out" tube or it's mucked up the connection hardware between the keg and line.

What do you guys store your empty beer bottles in?

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this thread, a HBT classic that grew wild into a million different bottle-storing options: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=318788 THAT SAID, after making a couple of the boxes from the thread above, I've just reverted to milk crates. They...

Any Concrete Guys Out There...Issue With Recent Patio Expansion

I'd imagine you already did this, but I'd make sure the realtor who made the recommendation was in the loop on this one from the get-go. He/she will be able to put some pressure on the contractor as well. If the contractor pisses YOU off, they're out one customer and may have to deal with one...

    Fermonster gasket question

Subbed, since I was looking at the Fermonster as a viable option to feed my current desire to get rid of my traditionally shaped carboys. I was guessing that, as the above poster is (albeit unintentionally) doing, brewing without the gasket should be an option. The seal, even without the...

    Odd Behaviour From My Cider

Funny, 'cuz I just made the same comment in another cider thread, for a different reason: I find my ciders ferment much more slowly (even when using the same ale yeast) than my beers. Instead of that 72 hour yeast "rowdy house party" that starts each beer ferment, my ciders brew slow and steady...

First time brewing a apfelwein - no sign of fermentation

Also, from personal experience: if you're a beer brewer, don't get freaked out when the cider fermentation isn't as massive and up-front as you're used to. I find my ciders ferment much slower, a nice easy "soda pop" bubbling look to it, for about 30 days. It's considerably less aggressive...

Brainstorming: pasteurizing a keg of cider...

SO, would it be safe to expect that fining, followed by filtering with a 1 micron filter, will take care of (virtually, I know) all yeast? Enough that I can then backsweeten and keg, and ALSO bottle from that keg without needing to pasteurize the bottles? Goin' for the gold, here... :mug:

Time to do some research! Fining AND filtering... here we go...

    Small volume, wide mouth fermenters

I've been on a heavy "wide mouth" fermenter kick lately. I've scored my first BMB and am planning on buying more. One lament I had, however, was the lack of lower-volume options. I am planning test batches and smaller batches of brew that I just don't need in large volume, and don't want to...

Brainstorming: pasteurizing a keg of cider...

I've been pasteurizing my bottles of cider for a while now, but I'm moving into kegging and I want to pasteurize my cider when kegging so that I can backsweeten and force carb WITHOUT using sorbate/meta. I have a friend who is pretty sulfite sensitive. She's one of the three people who drink my...

Standard-layout fridge: can I take out the floor of the freezer?

UPDATES: What was my ferm chamber is now going to be my kegerator, SO... 1.) I ripped out the console that was in the top of the fridge section. It held the bulb (which I ditched) and a thermostat which I cut out and jumped the wires together, so the compressor will always think it's too warm...

    A Tale of two Pails

I am, as I type, sipping on a glass of a Maris Otter/ Mosaic SMaSH I've just completed (aptly named Yer M.O.M.) And it is just awesome. So, pardon any typos. You mention "traditional" vs. "something new;" might I suggest a hop tea at bottling? For 2.5 gallons, I'd say cut your dry hop dose in...

    Don't Do That.

Don't spend the bank on a nice, shiny, new aluminum CO2 cylinder when setting up your kegerator before you go to the local gas supplier. Turns out they only do cylinder exchanges; getting my personal cylinder back could take up to a week "in the factory" to get it filled. And even then it's "you...

What I did for beer today

BBT DELIVERED MY TORPEDO KEGGING SYSTEM! ...from morebeer.com. SO thrilled to see it. SO sick of bottling. NOW, to brew something to put into it!

Best RO system for the money?

And with a wave of my hand and a click of the mouse, the thread's yearlong slumber ends and it RISES ONCE AGAIN! BWAHAHAH! To those who posted in this thread a while ago: still going good? How long (as in, how many gallons of RO water produced) do your filter sets last (I dig there are...

What I did for beer today

Built the wooden backbone for a collar to go on my new fermentation chamber. <-------- WORST. CARPENTER. EVER. ...I was sober, even. If I knew it was going to turn out looking that bad, at least I would have had a couple brews. I'm not sweating it too much, though. Once the...
