    PAA (Pineapple apple apple)

Huh. All my work has been with canned, it works great in this cider as well as my ginger beer. Or at least, I THINK, it works well. If it works well, maybe fresh squeezed would be even better?..?...! :ban:

    Hop tea into carbed keg?

Not to be contrary, because I really want to agree with you, but I've just noticed that in both bottled and kegged batches... over the month or so I'm consuming that batch, I lose a lot of the hop kick. Your point about the keg being sealed is valid, and even moreso for a bottle. That said, I've...

    Second BIAB....scratching head...why don't more do this?

I'm glad you're diggin' BIAB, because I am too. I really don't see myself ever moving to 3 vessel or anything like that. BIAB happens to be the point where my need to have a certain amount of control and to also not be swamped by gear and variables intersects. Why don't more do it? Why do...

    Hop tea into carbed keg?

SO: due to a hiccup in the brew pipeline (I'm so very punny), I'm going to be kegging TWO beers tomorrow. My plan is to use a hop tea on both, but my intent is ALSO to drink one keg down until it kicks, then start on the second one, rather than drinking both at the same time. Both are similar...

    Don't Do That.

When your kegerator starts tripping the GFCI outlet, don't immediately assume it's the outlet. Replacing the outlet, to the tune of $23 and a couple hours of time, and no change. Then, don't assume it's the controller, because spending a couple hours fiddling around with swapping controllers...

    Hops tea with pellets

For me, yeah. THAT SAID, I guess I just never put enough thought into it to think of actually using some of the fermented beer. Considering both options, it seems water makes the most sense to me since I can heat and steep the tea, then add to the keg or bottling bucket and use the turbulence...

    Hops tea with pellets

I've had MUCH better response from hop teas than dry hopping or hopstands (since I can't whirlpool). My usual MO is 1 liter of 160 degree water in my french press; add the hops (usually 1 oz into the 1 liter) and let steep for 30 mins. Then press down the hops and pour into the keg or bottling...

New Hop - “Fresh tropical citrus, with a hint of wafting joint smoke from around the"

Ok, WOW. Now that it's spent a few weeks in the keg and is fully carbed, this stuff is awesome. Now, I totally get much more of the "fruity" side that others have mentioned. The title of the thread says "tropical citrus" but for me it's much more "tropical fruity" and not much citrus at all...

    Boise, ID water analysis

It's a tough call. The issue is that Suez has a PHENOMENAL number (literally dozens) of water sources that they use to feed the area. I dug around the site a bit and the gist I got was "we have so many sites that we really can't tell you EXACTLY which one you're getting, so we're going to post a...

    Travel in Vancouver

I think EIGHT YEARS might be my record for resurrecting a dead thread. I'm heading up from Boise to catch a band playing at the Rickshaw in March. Could do the drive up, see the show, drive right back and do it in about 24 hours... but I'm old. SO, I'm thinking about hanging out a couple days...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

GREAT choice. It's a really good gig. I made almost ten grand a year more my first day as a nurse with an ADN than I did on my first day as an engineer with a BS. Lots of career choices. If you do actual patient care, do everything you can to get on a unit that does 12 hour shifts. Working...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

I am offended and triggered that there is no option that specifically describes me: former engineer (metallurgist) now employed in healthcare (flight nurse). I'll forgive you after my next beer. :mug:

Your thoughts and feedback for a sessionable IPA

Subbed; if for no other reason than the awesome bit of research into similar threads that is listed in the first post! ;)

Figured out how to reuse petainer keg. Am I wasting my time?

A piece of PET? Pressurized to 11psi? If it were that serious of a concern, I figure cruising the soda aisle at the supermarket would be like walking a minefield. Folks here use (and reuse, and reuse) PET to bottle their hooch all the time. How is reusing this bad boy any different than...

    PAA (Pineapple apple apple)

I was really interested in the pineapple over everything else, so I kept it simple: 12 oz pineapple juice 0.4# brown sugar pinch of nutrient pectic enzyme (appropriate amt for 1 gal) Notty for the yeast Primary was done in about four weeks. IIRC, I ended up letting it sit a couple...

    Filtering unfermented juices?

SO, I was messing with pineapple juice and Jumex peach nectar. In both cases, lining a funnel with cheesecloth or my BIAB bag worked too well: they clogged up almost immediately, and trying to move the bag/cloth around to get unclogged fabric in play was a huge mess. What actually seemed to...

    PAA (Pineapple apple apple)

Off... the... hook! I made a one gallon test batch of this, went with 12 ounces of pineapple juice instead of juicing one pineapple, and backsweetened with FAJC. Even after only one month in primary, it was AMAZING. Thanks for the great recipe! I see a full batch this getting started...

New Hop - “Fresh tropical citrus, with a hint of wafting joint smoke from around the"

SO, I just dropped this in the keg, and am sipping on the hydro sample as I type. Call this stuff "The Notorious D.A.N.K." I'm not a beer judge, and it's only just lately that I've been paying attention to the hops that are in a recipe and started using SMaSHs to try an educate my taste...
