I put them all down in a couple of coolers in the corner. Limits any possible mess and I needed to get them off the counter, anyway....cats.

Prior to a possible bomb, will there be any warning signs I should look for?

Now here's the next worry about this: got hubby to help me with capping. He was in charge of adding the conditioning tablets and apoarently his mind was elsewhere when I told him how many to add. Short story is, he added 7 instead of 4 to each bottle, so now I am worried about bombs (not to...

Yeah, it certainly looked that way when it was still bubbling pretty good after 10 days....definitely optimistic in the total fermentation time. But the hydrometer reading hadn't changed in a full week. I think it was either stuck or done. Being my first batch I was afraid of off flavors or...

Thanks for the advice to my poor noob self ;-) I'll bear that in mind next time.

    What are you drinking now?

A glass of my latest batch of cider while I contemplate future bottle bombs.

Beg pardon, extract kit box says Lallemand Belle Saison, if that helps.

Gravity reading is 1.014, near as I can tell, I still am no expert at reading the hydrometer. The flavor of the sample is not bad at all, but the reading has not changed in a few days. I make the abv @ 4.32. I guess I will just bottle and chalk this up as a learning experience. It's...

I have a question that is sort of along these lines: I started my first batch of beer the day after Christmas, using a Saison extract kit. Now the instructions said 7-10 days on primary ferment, but I am still seeing a few small bubbles in the airlock and the hydrometer reading is still not...

I think that sounds like it would be wonderful! What recipe are you using, because I would love to try that myself with a batch. Or, rather, I assume you are using the already quoted Skeeter Pee recipe, but what was the makeup of your cranberry wine?

@Arpolis: awhile back you mentioned substitutions for energizers, nutrients and tannins, etc. Would you mind giving me further information on those? I suspect the substitutions are going to be easier to obtain locally for me and I'd really like to try a second batch using the substitutions to...

My first batch turned out ok. Still has a bit of a wine taste, but I think if I'd not rushed it, there would have been less of that. I backsweetened with 4 cups sugar. I think I will try 5 next time and compare.
  17. Paschendale

    What are you drinking now?

Glass of my first batch of skeeter pee. Didn't turn out too bad.

Any ideas about interesting things to do with the trub left in the primary after racking?

I didn't fool with sparkelloid....I'm not fussed about the crystal clarity. It'd be pretty, but I'm more concerned with the flavor. I'm wondering if it needs the full week to rest and then another week after sweetening, though.

No, I won't be. I know nothing about doing that, other than watching my stepson carb a keg of his homebrew once, and he used a gas cartridge for that. According to my readings, the ABV is slightly higher than 10% at the moment.
