Shopping list for a newb's first brew, your thoughts?

I just got started a month ago and am on my 5th batch. I bought the kit with 2-6.5 gal buckets and 5 gal glass carboy. The buckets are much easier. After researching it seemed best to primary 3 weeks and straight to keg. I don't see a need for the 5 gal glass unless you secondary. They...

    Hefe 3068 slurry question

I read most all of that and the Bee Cave Hefe thread which I plan on brewing and have the grain bill ready to go tomorrow. The hefe 3068 just seems to act different from the norm. It doesn't settle out and give that layer of normal yeast with a light color on top without leaving a thick layer...

    Hefe 3068 slurry question

That's what I'm reading. At this point the best option seems to be sucking the white layer up with a meat syringe. I have 06 backup. This yeast is one of those that is not worth re-pitching. The best seems to be top cropping the foam and washing.

    Hefe 3068 slurry question

I saved the slurry from a hefe from 2 weeks ago. Unwashed into sterilized qt jars. The hefe is about is over half in a qt jar comapered to saved ale yeast which is normally 3/4 to 1 in of settlement. I took it out of the fridge this am and it smells wonderful with banana. Here is a pic...

n00b - this is what I am thinking of going with

I just started 3 week ago. I had a 8.75 gal pot/turkey fryer. I got a same kit but a 5 gal glass carboy instead of a pot. Brewed a 5 gal extract no problem. The next week I went straight to BIAB with a 5 gal AG Hefe. It was easier than extract. I can't fit 7.5 gal and full BIAB so I...

    Help with mead

From everything I read I should be able to rack the mead onto the peach slurry. I plan on 2 lbs slurry to 7/8 gal of 3 week old mead.

    Help with mead

I have made a 1 gal batch with just water, my own honey and yeast(Dap) nutrient. I did add a little PM. It is about 3 weeks in the primary with 5 star Premier Cuvee. Can I add fruit or anything to sweeten it? I have 3 more qts of honey. It is a light spring floral from my gardens and...

    What are you drinking now?

Newb drinking kegged green watery 1 week Hefe and 2 week PA. I'm just happy to be AG BIAB at 2 weeks in and have a keg system that works thus far. Hopefully I can get over the hump and wait 3 weeks for the batch I brewed today.

To keg or not to keg??

I just started and went with a keg system. I already had dorm fridge that holds 2 corny's, 8.75 gal turkey fryer and misc other equipment to start brewing. I brewed 15 years ago and the pain of bottling never went away. It made more sense to get into a keg system than spend the money on a...
