I have a couple questions on an upcoming brew

I have a couple questions on an upcoming brew. The questions are related to water chemistry and hop additions. I’ll be brewing Morebeer’s American Pale Ale II all grain kit. Here’s the details on the kit… Grain Bill: 10lbs 2-Row 1.5lbs Crystal 15 0.5 lbs Honey...

Brewed my first porter last weekend

Update on the Honey Porter... I kegged it this weekend. It finished with an FG of 1.009 which is what Beersmith listed the expected FG would be. I'm loving the color, smell and taste so far. As I said, this is my first porter so I am really excited to have a pint of this. Pictures for...

Brewed my first porter last weekend

So I brewed my first Porter last weekend (Jan 11th). It was an American Honey Porter kit I got from MoreBeer (this was the 1st kit I ever purchased from them. I was very pleased at the quality of the kit itself.) I went with the White Labs - California Ale yeast on this kit as recommended by...

    Son of a......

Well it's been pitched. The brew hit an OG of 1.060 which is a tad high for this recipe. I pitched it at a wort temp of 66F so we shall see. Thanks again.

    Son of a......

Thanks for setting my mind at ease everyone. :mug: The yeast is California Yeast WLP001 and the beer I haven't brewed yet. I'll be starting that in a bout an hour or so. It's the American Honey Porter All Grain kit from MoreBeer. According to the directions the OG should be somewhere around...

    Son of a......

Well.... *sigh* Relax, Don't worry, have a homebrew right? Long story short I shook the yeast vile a little too much and it 'blew' all over the towel instead of going in the starter flask. S*!T I screamed. All-in-all I think I got a fair amount inside the flask. My quick reflexes managed...

First All Grain brew coming up and I have questions

Like the title says, first All Grain coming soon and I'm not sure about a couple things. First off this is a brew kit (Caribou Slobber from NB) that I'll be working with. I found the same recipe in Beersmith so I loaded it up with my equipment profile I made. I have a 5-gal cooler mash tun and...

Latest batch a little light on flavor...

They came pre-crushed in a bag. One thing I'm trying to figure out is whether or not I ran "sparge" water over the grains when I took them out after steeping. I know I did it for the 2 previous batches but I can't for the life of me remember if I did it for this one. Man it sucks getting old. :(

Latest batch a little light on flavor...

I brewed an Irish Red Ale from Northern Brewer. This was my 3rd batch (2nd from NB) and it turned out a little light on the tastebuds. I brewed it the same way I've brewed the other 2 batches (which were packed with flavor) but evidently I did something differently. The yeast was done...
