    Hops and Dogs

From what ive read hops are deadly to dogs. It affects there ability to thermoregulate and they start to over heat quickly leading to seizures and death. A lot of people say there dogs aren't interested in fresh hops but once your hops are soaked in wort they might be more interested in the...

Need some help from a chemist

I've been thinking about getting pyruvate. It's small enough to put anywhere and important for yeast in making alcohol and for humans for cell respiration.

    Central Jersey Homebrewers Thread

Outside of Princeton here. I think parts of Mercer county are central too. I'm at the western end of 33 and consider it central but admittedly it's the southern part :)

    Hefe 5 Fruit Experiement

Do you bottle carbonate those 1 gallon batches? If so how much sugar/water mix do you add to each gallon? I'm making my first Hefe i'm thinking of adding some orange or other citrus to. Not much, just a hint of flavor.

    XXXX Gold clone

Does anyone have an extract recipe for XXXX Gold? Is this something a noob could do? I fell in love with this beer on a trip to Australia and can't get it in the states. Sorry NSW not as impressed with VB...although if anyone has that recipe I'd like to try and make that too.

    Wow it tastes good!

Yeah, that's pretty much what happened with me. I woke up the next morni g and it hit me! Sorry, yes it is a pale ale. Maybe I'll rack as soon as my FG stabilizes and dry hop longer then. Thanks for the input.

    Wow it tastes good!

Hey all, About a week ago i brewed my first ale. It was a late night event (finished around 1:30am)! As a result I took my OG from my 2 gallons of wort rather than after mixing it with the three gallons of water in the fermenter. I was able to estimate it to be about 1.045, does that sound...

    secondary question

yeah, thats all I have is my bucket primary or my bottling bucket. I'm planning on picking up either a glass or plastic carboy for a primary. Any recommendation on how long I should dry hop for?

    secondary question

I'm struggling with this too. My first batch( a pale ale) has been in primary for a week now. I still have to take an FG but I really want to bottle it as soon as possible. After reading a million and one posts on this site, I know its better to let it sit for another week or two to let it clear...

    First brew day, some questions.

Congrats, I just brewed my first batch last night. A pale ale with a kit from my LHBS. Mine took a long time too, but I expected that on the first brew! I was up until about 1:30 AM... I had similar blunders too, a little scorching and a tough time dropping the wort temp. I took my OG from the...

To Secondary Ferment or Not to Secondary Ferment...

That makes sense, no need for extra left overs in the bottom of my bottling bucket. Do you guys leave your hydrometer in the fermenter? How often do you check SG?

To Secondary Ferment or Not to Secondary Ferment...

Yeah, I honestly didn't realize this was slightly more involved. Thats ok, I rather jump in head first! Crossing my fingers it comes out half way decent!!

To Secondary Ferment or Not to Secondary Ferment...

Giggidy...Sorry, couldn't resist after seeing your avatar! Yeah hopefully i'll pick up some better equipment down the line. Since this is my first batch and my bank account is small I'd like to try it with what I have. Thanks for the info about the hops, it makes me feel a lot better about just...

To Secondary Ferment or Not to Secondary Ferment...

Hey guys, I'm brewing my first batch of beer tonight, a Pale ale. I have some Cascade hop pellets that I have to dry hop after fermentation. What way do you recommend adding these. Should I rack to my secondary which is also my bottle filling bucket? Should I leave the beer as is and just add...

New brewer from central New Jersey

Hi everyone, I've been debating taking the plunge into home brewing for a while now. I have checked out this site a few times before I finally went today and picked up my home brewing setup. Nothing fancy but it will get my by with my intro to brewing. I chose a nice pale ale as my first...
