    Soldering Stainless steel

I got brave this morning and made a second attempt to solder a 1 inch nut to one of the 15 gallon cans that a friend gave me a few months ago and I think it was a success! I need to get a heating element to screw in there to leak test it still, but it looks like it soldered all the way around.

    Soldering Stainless steel

On this subject... my local dealer for the Harris liquid solder only carries it in 16 ounce bottles and those are $17. If I would ever use that much, which I won't, I wouldn't mind buying the pint, however, I will never use more than a couple of ounces in the rest of my life. Do any of you know...

Burner too good to be true????

I'll tell you, had I found this http://www.agrisupply.com/cooker-stand/p/40322/c2p/cs/ before I got too deeply into my electric build I'd likely have bought a couple of them and stayed propane-powered. But, I'm glad I didn't really because the electric will allow mw to stay inside during the...

    My Electric Build...Finally....

I'm trying to figure out how to get my kids to buy me an Auber PID or two for Christmas... but, being the Grinch that I am it seems kind of "wrong" to now suggest what I want Santa to bring me. LOL

I'm guessing my SWMBO is about to be upset

Updates... I have been lucky enough to get a second one of the 15 gallon stainless steel "milk cans" for free. I've brought that home, plus some misc copper pipe fittings, and today my order for stainless locknuts and fittings came in. I'm hoping to try my hand at soldering the fittings to the...

    electric equipment start up costs

I have to agree with Walker on this one..Kal's system is the ultimate. It's what you can do and can spend if you have a very large budget. On my budget (I drive a 95 Lumina I got for free) the goal is to make a decent system that makes good beer for the absolute minimum expenditure.

    electric equipment start up costs

So far...steel for stand..$80, pump (from eBay a couple years ago <$20, keg (couple of years ago too, I think ~$35, cooler I had already, spa disconnect $50, 4-wire dryer outlet $20ish, fifty feet of 10-3 wire-$30, ticket for expired inspection sticker I got while picking up the 10-3 from a...

    electric equipment start up costs

Or... sneak it all past SWMBO? That's the only thing that seems to work for me. Most of the time anyway. I wish I had more to offer you in answer to your question, but I too am just starting to accumulate parts for a build and have no idea what it will end up costing (and in some ways I don't...

60qt. Ice Cube Mash Tun Build - $cheap and simple

I've had one of these coolers for years, but never thought it would be a good mash tun. This thread has convinced me that I don't need a new cooler after all, and that this Ice Cube will never hold canned beer on ice again. Off to Lowes for some tubing tomorrow!

    Equipment Suggestion

I use a 3 gallon cooler, a 30 qt turkey pot and a 3 gallon glass carboy to do small batches. The pot could be smaller I suppose, but not much due to boil over possibilities.

    Amana 18 question

If anyone uses one of these old dinosaurs for a kegerator I have a question...do you know where a safe spot to drill through the side for a CO2 line is? My 20lb CO2 bottle takes up too much real estate inside so I want to move it out. I know I could drill through the door, but I'd be much...
