Will this PID be ok for HERMS?

Let me start by saying that I have just about the world's smallest "toy" budget, so I have to build my brew system on the cheap. It looks to me that I can build a HERMS for less money I could a RIMS. Either will need a pid...does anyone have any experience with this one, or can offer advice on...

    Brewery Layout

I see it now...that's what it was for sure. That will make a great brewery!

    Brewery Layout

Without seeing it, my guess is the trough in the floor was just behind the back feet of the cows, and was where the, uh, manure, landed when nature called to the cow.

Recirculation/sparging port in side of cooler

Couldn't you make the hole large enough to insert a sleeve of some type (CPVC perhaps) that would allow some compression of the side walls but not much?

Do you use a 25 foot CFC?

I know what you're saying...when I built my brewing setup the first time around I made my immersion cooler with 50 feet of 1/2 inch copper. That baby sucked heat out of the hot wort and I accidently made contact with the hot water. Didn't ever do it again!

Do you use a 25 foot CFC?

Thanks for the fast replies! I ask because i found a rubber hose that says it's rated for 165 degrees and wonder if that's enough to use to build a CFC.

Do you use a 25 foot CFC?

Could someone who uses one of these please tell me the temperature of the water leaving the cooler? Thanks a bunch!

    Shurflow Brew Buddy Pump

I don't own one of these, but did find this about them on one website: ""Several homebrew merchants sell heat-resistant pumps with a pump section that is magnetically coupled to the electric motor (the pump can stall or stop and not burn out the motor). I chose a non-magnetic pump from Beer...

Lining a 10G cooler with stainless?

There's one of those old Igloos on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/L-N-Railroad-Galvanized-Igloo-3-Gallon-Water-Cooler-VTG-Sign-Old-Metal-USA-Retro-/220878286858?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336d5f300a

    Soldering Stainless steel

Yep...FAIL. Leaks like there's no tomorrow. I'll try again later....but I think I need better flux first. I just hate to pay as much as the local welding supply shop wants for the Harris.

What happens when you use your pump to shoot water at your control panel

This thread answered important questions for me....I just asked the other day about using a 50 amp spa panel with a 30 amp dryer fuse and got helpful answers, but your post reaffirmed that it's cool to do. Thanks...and glad you, the dogs and your system ( I like the setup, those drawers rock!)...

    Long time brewer making changes

Sounds like you no longer have an underpowered drill. Also sounds like great service from Monster Mill.

Mine was Bud...old Bud...smelled like, well, bad Bud (wait, isn't that redundant?).

    Soldering Stainless steel

Not so successful....small leak on first try. Bigger leak on 2nd try....3rd try looks iffy. Gave up for the night.

    Weekend project

Cleaned out the meager balance in my Paypal account tonight and bought the pieces to make my first counterflow cooler. It will be based on 25 feet of 3/8 tubing. I'm actually excited...i'll be doing full boils again!!!!!

    Basement Brew Pub

While I'm truly envious of your bar, I think I'd trade jobs and wife with you...the rest would come easier after that swap. My job doesn't pay enough and my wife would NEVER go for a bar in the basement, no matter how nice it was. Beautiful setup for sure!

    Spa panel question

I bought the 50 amp spa panel from HD last year but have not done anything with it yet. I have some questions for you more electrically experienced people. First, my house still only has a glass fuse main box with the pull-outs holding cartridge fuses for the main and dryer circuit. The mains...
