    Homebrew Nightmares

    Dreams, yes...nightmares, not yet.

Pleasant surprise tonight... and a question.

My temp controller and SSR were on my porch at 10 pm tonight!!! I didn't expect them for a week or two yet, so I'm excited. However, I now have a question, which is simply, do I HAVE to use a contactor? This controller/ssr will control a 1500 watt element. The SSR is a 25 amp. Speaking of...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

SOMETHING is getting brewed soon in this house! If I'm lucky, it'll happen on Sunday.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

That Cranberry Wheat sounds interesting...got a recipe you'll share?

You know you're addicted to HBT when....

When you check HBT during the night after you wake up to answer your bladder's call.

    Using home-grown whole leaf hops

I have a bunch of home-grown Cascade hops in my freezer, where they have been for two or three years. Should I use them? How do I know how much to use if I attempt it?

    What are you drinking now?

Some brew from a keg I thought was empty, pleasant surprise that it isn't.....quite.

    And it Begins...my brew rig

Looks good, but I think I'd put some kind of cross bracing in there. It looks possible for it to bend when all three kegs are full. Good luck on your first brew with it. I hope to join you in single tier brewing next month when all the parts for my eHerm are finally here.

    Getting there

I am slowly accumulating the pieces needed to brew electrically. I am waiting for delivery of a PID and SSR, ordered a couple of weeks ago and a 10 foot 4 prong dryer cord ordered moments ago. I have recently purchased a 5500 watt 240 volt stainless steel element for the BK, and a steel beverage...

Using 10g kettle to brew 3g batches

NO, I don't have that experience, but I do have experience with 5 gallon batches in a 15 gallon keg as do many of the brewers here. Big is good...no worrying about boil-overs.

My "maybe a year or so old beer" isn't...

I got curious if I could figure out when I brewed the batch that's been sitting in a carboy in the basement for " a year or so...maybe two" and did a search to see if I mentioned brewing it. I knew that might be a possibility because I posted quite a bit when I was using the name Gonefishing. I...

2 year old beer safe to drink?

Ok, I tasted it. Put it in a keg to see what it's like carbed up, but I still have a question.... shouldn't I be able to take a gravity reading on it? The hydrometer (right word?) didn't appear to want to float in it.

Used walk in cooler w/o cooling unit $500

A well insulated metal closet perhaps? Quick way to build a room. Cool it with an AC unit, maybe?

2 year old beer safe to drink?

Yep, but I'd feel even more the fool if it could, and did, make me or anyone else, sick.

2 year old beer safe to drink?

Along the same line...maybe...I have a brew in a carboy that is about a year old...no water in the airlock for a long time....should I taste it or dump it?

    Motorizied my pasta mill

Bought a screwdriver with the right sized shank last night ($4.74) and cut and broke the handle off it tonight. Chucked it up in the drill and WHOOSH...sucked a handful of two-row though there like it was turbo charged! I think I'm gonna like this...the hand crank was pretty tiring. A couple of...

    Wiring questions

My house has a 30 amp dryer circuit but I want to use a spa panel with a 50 amp GFI in the circuit. What I'd like to do is run a 10-3 w/ground from the fuse box to a 4 prong dryer outlet near my brewery and mount the spa panel on the brewstand or in the control box. Power to the spa panel and...

    Making hoses

Yep, you could do that, but it'll cost a bunch more. I just bought a 25 foot rv water hose at Walmart for $9.97. I think you'll have trouble being even close to that with any other hose setup.
