All the major parts finally on the way

My eHerms setup recently made it to the front burner and took priority over my other projects. IN the past month it went from a bare stand and some 15 gallon stainless containers to a completed Igloo cooler MLT, a 5500 watt MLT with a DIY sight glass, a stand with a water filter setup, a 1500...

Is this cooler good for anything?

You could drill it and install a drain...make yourself a MLT for small batches.

    Power Cords

I bought my 10 foot four wire dryer cord on Amazon (used) for $12. A new one was $20. I just checked, that's still the price for new. Amazon.com: PETRA 90-1028 3-Wire Dryer Cord, 10-Foot, 30A: Home Improvement It's only 30 amps though.

    Stranded 10awg THHN wire

I bought mine at HD and got four different colors too.

    Another etched beer glass

Hey, Glavini, that looks pretty sweet! Do you buy your supplies from Strange Brew?

    What are you drinking now?

A pale ale that I brewed a couple of years ago I think (might have been one year ago T-day) that had "chunks" in it that wouldn't clear. I ended up just leaving the corny in the fridge....lo and behold, after all this time it's clear and beautiful.

Ideas for sight glass material using hose barbs?

Heating polycarb might get it over the barb but it will cool and be too rigid to get off the barb for cleaning, if that's the intention. Could you use polycarb and a short piece of silicon hose over both the barb and the polycarb tube?

PEX pipe for outer shell of counterflow chiller?

My bet is that it will work well.

    Stupid Elec't Noob Question!!

Not knowing much about dimmer switches, I'd wonder if they had the capacity to handle that much current. Even a 1500w element is something like 11 amps isn't it?

    possible control panel enclosure?

So, HHP. did you use it?Do you have a finished pic? I really like those sloped front boxes!

    With some luck...

The large vessel (15 gallons) in the foreground is the HLT, which will have its own 3500w element. It and the BK were given to me by a friend who uses them to store wine in. They were originally containers for olive oil. They are much thinner than a keg, but they have a 1/2" threaded port welded...

Salvaged Wires and Plugs - Good Score?

I think I'd feel pretty good about that find...way less money than the wire alone would have cost you. Not sure that 3 prong is what you want in the garage though, but you did just fine on the deal anyway.

    Question about contactors

I do have a SSR, but it is my understanding that it's a good idea to use that in conjunction with a contactor. The HLT and BK are my concerns, the Herms uses a 1500w 120v element and I plan to just use the SSR with the pid for that.

    Question about contactors

Is this Contactors | Contactors | Contactor - 2 Pole 30 Amps 120 Coil Voltage | B238482 - GlobalIndustrial.com a good contactor to use to switch the power to my elements? I thought about using 24v coil models, but that isnt enough power for the PID is it? This is what I'm working on... I need...

    element cover

I did copy you...but I added a screw in the side that I tightened until it provided enough friction to hold the cap from moving at all. Nice neat idea...thank you for it.

    With some luck...

I have to admit that I deleted the mess in the background, which is why the top of the pic looks strange. Left to right it's HLT, eHerms, MLT, boil kettle with CFC on top. The top of the stand and the bottom shelf are two pieces of a butcher block table top that I had planned to use as the top...

    With some luck...

Thought I'd throw up a progress pic

You know you're a home brewer when?

This one made me laugh....out loud!

    With some luck...

Typical me, my planning process is...do it now! And I tend to actually not make plans per se and do things in my head as I do the real thing. I'm pretty impulsive for an old guy.

    With some luck...

I should be ready to run the eHerms system Sunday afternoon. I'd like to be ready earlier, but with family coming today and a second T-day dinner on Saturday, there won't be much time for tinkering. I have my stand, my MLT, water-filtering filling system, heater elements, PID, SSR, spa panel...
