    Hop leaves dry and brittle

Good ol' Mesa tap water, on a drip irrigation system that runs every morning at 4am for 6 minutes. This works for my whole garden (veggies and hops). I'm sure I'll have to adjust the timing when it gets warmer.

    Hop leaves dry and brittle

I'm in Phoenix too, and my chinook is about the same size, but doing really well. How's your soil? What did you amend it with?

I just found out I have been doing it all wrong

You've been doing it right. Whoever told you to steep in little water is wrong.

    Long Rhizomes

My Golding was planted vertically, and one end is about 1/4" above the surface (thanks to the neighbors f'n cat!). It's sprouting nicely. In other words, no worries :) They seem to be much hardier than you'd think. Just plant it vertically and make a mound on the top to cover the end. That is...

    Long Rhizomes

Plant vertically if you can, otherwise cutting it in half probably won't hurt it.

    planting rhizomes

I planted 2 of mine horizontal, and 1 vertical. They are all sprouting, so it doesn't really matter.

    Label Removal Thread

Another vote for oxyclean free as a label remover. Most labels came off in minutes, with only a few ones needing to stay in the tub overnight (Grolsch Light, Pete's Wicked and Sierra Nevada). A basic kitchen scrub pad to get some resilient areas of adhesive, but no need for elbow grease! As...

    My Laid Back Label

Very nice! I like that one a lot.

    Beer Snobbery generator Awesomeness

Drinking a Deschutes Hop Trip, here's the review :) Pours an opalescent chestnut with a soft, pillowy head. Amazing lacing. Intense herbal nose, and I also get some circus peanut and apple. Well-balanced barnyard taste, with notes of tartness and banana. Tightly carbonated mouthfeel and light...

    no shoots ok?

I planted 3 rhizomes last thursday, and the one without any shoots is the only one that's broken ground so far :) It was a Chinook for what it's worth. Looks are deceiving!

Centenials poking out looking for sun!

Me too! My Chinook (ironically the worse looking rhizome I got too) has 1/4" protruding. Just waiting on the Goldings and Cascades.

Free Brewmasters Tasting Kit - Killian's Red

Got mine as well. Plastic cups with a Killian's sticker. Mega cheezy, but it was free and I've already used the bottle opener :)

Beer did not turn out can someone help me?

Batch size? Hops? Gravities? Yeast? More details will get you better answers.

    Some questions about plant foods

I think it depends on your soil, climate, etc. For this, I would suggest taking a small sample of your soil and heading to a nursery. They'll be able to suggest what you need. I'm only saying this because it sounds like you're looking for the best possible growth :) What I did was use Miracle...

Is Blue Moon an accurate representation of a Witbier?

No. It's a good representation of what "the man" wants you to believe is an exotic wit beer. It's certainly drinkable, and makes a decent session beer because nearly every store carries it. Hoegaarden is the next most commercial example of a wit, but it actually has a long history. Give this...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    11891 +1 ------ 11892 Yes I know that 1 gallon won't be enough :)

Has anyone gotten their rhizomes from thymegarden yet?

Ordered March 8th, received today. Picture at 5pm, in the ground at 5:30 :) The Kent Golding looks great! Had several buds ready to go. The Chinook only had 2. I'll be planting a Cascade too, should be here next week.

    Wine Cooler

I use a 32 bottle Vintotemp Wine Fridge, and it will NOT fit a 6.5 carboy. My 3ga carboy fits nicely, and a 5.5 gallon bucket would work, but not a carboy bigger than 3ga. There are plenty other models that should work for you though, just be sure to measure twice :)

Just got a Backyard Classics Turkey fryer. What do I do with this???

Use that air vent to adjust the flame after it's lit. You'll want to have mostly blue flame with yellow at the ends, instead of little blue and mostly yellow. But adjusting that vent you can adjust the air/propane mixture.
