How to have backup keg ready?

Since the beer is feeding from the bottom, that will come out in your first couple glasses.

Start to finish--how long is your typical brew day?

2.5G All-Grain took about 6 hours this morning. Started at 7am, finished around 1pm. If I had something better than my stovetop, it would probably cut an hour off that time. Extra time waiting to get started mashing and getting to a boil.

    Craigslist?

You can search for a keyword on Craigslist and then add the RSS feed into a rss reader such as Google Reader. Whenever a new post shows up with that keyword, it will show up in Google Reader. I have about 10 searches saved this way, so I can find all the deals I'm looking for easily.

Wizard of SAAZ- January 15 2011 - Open to all homebrew beer styles!

A little disappointed to have missed this one since it was pretty close by. Know if there are there plans to do this again at the end of the year?

If 5 ft of Bev Line isn't enough.....

Others have also said the pour was slower, but how much slower? Right now it only takes a few seconds to fill a glass with foam :( off my tower.

Start to finish--how long is your typical brew day?

My last couple 2.5G All Grain batches have been about 4.5 hours from pouring the water to finished cleaning up.

    Favorite Brewing Music

Since I'm only brewing in the kitchen right now, I just attach my laptop to my stereo receiver in the living room, fire up Pandora. I"ll usually go with the Rock Hits Radio channel.

    Splitting Crushed Grains

So the OG ended up at 1.040 @ 88F after a 90min mash @ 152. I've had few beers now, but it didn't taste so bad. :) Color is pretty light in the vial, more of a dark yellow than red.

    Splitting Crushed Grains

Just an attempt at a red ale recipe I found someplace. I actually just finished this a few minutes ago, waiting for it to cool some more so I can pitch some Safale S-05. I split the grain bag in half, and ended up with about 5.75lbs of grain. The hops part of the recipe was 0.5 oz Cascade...

    Splitting Crushed Grains

I cropped the picture a bit, I"m thinking there's enough space to mix them up pretty well. Thanks.

    Splitting Crushed Grains

I have these grains crushed in a sealed package, and there is just no way I can get 6gallons of wort to boil on my stovetop. Suddenly don't have the cash right now to get a turkey fryer or build/buy an electric element like I had planned. Can I just shake this bag up to make sure everything...

Help me decide on a keg kit....

I recently set up my keezer and used standard chrome faucets. Mine are sticking real bad already, I'm kicking myself for not upgrading to the Perlick SS faucets.

    Columbus, OH Beerfestival 01/14 - 01/15

Sounds like a blast. I'll be in Columbus this evening to pick up some kegs, but otherwise I'm stuck in Cleveland all weekend for family stuff.

dropped my red baron capper and broke...

I broke my red baron capper on the first case i ever bottled, I had to tear it up to get the capper part off. I screwed in a bolt and used a hammer to pound 30 caps on. Bought a bench capper the next day and haven't looked back.

How do you identify your homebrews?

I just write some letters on the caps. I have a big whiteboard above my keezer in the kitchen, and have each beer listed along with the cap label. Worked out great for Christmas/New Years. The only people who had trouble, were the ones who probably shouldn't have anymore anyway..

    SS Drip Tray

I may be interested in this, I just need to measure how much space I have between my draft tower and the front of my freezer to make sure it will fit.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Andes Mint Chocolate Stout

I used 1tsp peppermint extract for 2.5G @ 2min. You can't smell the pepperment too much when you go to have a drink, but it gives more to the taste. The bitterness of the cocoa powder has mellowed out for me since it's been in the keg. Had a big foaming problem with this beer, serving at...

So apfelwein is OK in clear bottles . .

I want to just reuse the bottles the juice came in. They're plastic, think that will work?

Gas Burner + Heatstick for full boils?

Yep, I've tried covering the kettle. To get it up to 210F I have to keep it about 3/4 covered. I don't really have the option of building a heatstick right now, that's why I want to purchase one to use for a few months. I think I'll give one of these a try and see how it turns out...
