    What would You do?

I have my first-ever brew (Autumn Amber kit from MWS) sitting in the primary bucket. It is currently on day 6 and I have not taken any FG readings. I want to start my next brew (Pumpkin Ale kit from MWS) on thursday so that it can get going and will be ready to drink by a party I am having in...

    tempature fluctuations

I went to walmart and bought one of those plastic tubs with the rope handles for $4.97. I placed my primary bucket inside this plastic tub. I get a shirt soaked with cold water, wring it out, and drape it over ~3/4 of the bucket along the sides (it sticks pretty well) - I do this once in the...

You are correct on the IBUs changing. I was going to do the calculations but got lazy and honestly I wanted to see how it would turn out. I decided to still use the same amount of bittering hops (1oz Hallertau) but instead of adding it all at the start of the boil (60min) I added half at that...

Any thoughts on how to alter the amount of time spent in primary, secondary, and bottling, due to the low OG? Will leaving the batch longer in each step cause an increase in alcohol volume and a more dry tasting beer, thus losing some of the flavor?

    Filtered Water

I did an extract batch and bough six 1-gallon jugs of distilled water at the grocery score. It cost me 5 bucks. Worth it.

Thanks for the comments. As for the temp at OG reading, it was around 75degrees. After looking at the chart that came with my hydrometer (thanks!) it says I should correct it by adding 0.002 or 0.003. Taking that into account, my OG would be 1.036. Still low, but I'll take it. I used 6.5gal...

    First session is complete...

Well, today marked my first brew session. I used the Autumn Amber Ale kit from Midwest Supplies. I did run into a few problems along the way, and would love any feedback... I have a 34qt turkey fryer which I used to do a full boil 6.5gal (in the hopes of ending around 5gal). I did encounter the...
