    My water is screwed

Would you consider this an example of a taste and odor filter? I've got a bunch of these on hand (use them for my ice machines)... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NL2Z7MN?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_13&th=1

    My water is screwed

@Bobby_M Thanks for the heads up! I have a float valve on hand just in case. I didn't break the bank on the larger tank, so it's a very real possibility that it sucks. I haven't fully tested the system due to time constraints. I did order the inline TDS meter, pressure gauge, and permeate...

    Salt additions in Brewfather

Couple of questions about salt additions and using the Brewfather app... Using RO water as the source, and selecting a target profile, the additions the app gives are minute compared to what most seem to recommend. We're talking .2 grams of CaCl2, which I've seen people recommend at 1 Tsp...

    My water is screwed

To wrap this up, I purchased a PureDrop RTW5 RO system from Amazon, as well as an additional 14 gallon tank. I've mounted the faucet that comes with the system to a simple 2x4 base that sits beside my washing machine (I brew in the garage). I already had an ice machine in the garage and was...

    My water is screwed

@mac_1103 I understood alkalinity to be a measurement rather than a considered value. Based on the formula for total alkalinity ≈ 50.0435(Ca/20.039 + Mg/12.153 + Na/22.99 - Cl/35.453 - SO4/48.031). My results are 219ish, based off of using a quantity of "0" for and SO4.

    My water is screwed

@rlrohan I'm not disagreeing with you, what I was implying is that I have crap from my water softener lining my water lines. I've experienced this with my ice machine (even after water filters) getting the salty looking sludge blocking the water lines. I can only assume the gunk is in my water...

    My water is screwed

I can assure you the water is hard. Without the softener, my water is slick as oil. Reminds me of being in Fallon, NV 20 years ago in the Navy. Could be my water lines have just become coated with water softener sludge over the last several years... Regardless, I'm installing a mobile RO...

    My water is screwed

Do you recommend the softened water, or bypassed water thru the RO, or does it even matter? My RO system will arrive tomorrow, and I plan on plumbing it into a custom cart in the garage (existing washing machine supply with 1/4 inch lines for an ice machine already available).

    My water is screwed

These results are with the water softener bypassed, the water ran for 10 minutes (faucet is less than 10 feet of water line run from softener to faucet), and then filled sample bottle. I made an initial post about my water quality before I had me results back, and have since discovered my water...

    My water is screwed

Looks like I'm going to have to invest in an RO system... way too much sodium in my water - even after running it with the softener bypassed... I'm guessing the county adds sodium to try to soften our hard water... Anyone have any suggestions besides RO water? pH 8.1 Total Dissolved Solids...

    Brew kit...disassembly

Just a quick suggestion.... You can ask Google Gemini (AI) to create a recipe for you with the ingredients you have on hand. It's actually pretty good and you can add or substitute hops etc to customize it even further. I've used it a handful of times to use to the partial bags of grain I had...

New to brewing with lots of questions!

Welcome to the forum! I'm a little obsessive with my hobbies and tend to dive in head first most times. I began with two extract kits and then bought an electric all in one brew kit (just a cheap one from Vevor). I've brewed 12 all grain bags since then. I DO drink a lot of beer, it seems...

    Another D-rest question

Thanks @Hoppy2bmerry I had read that info previously. Still doesn't mention the timeframe at which I'm looking at, and I still don't have an answer to the quick precession to the 75% mark... So should I just assume it's ready and ramp it up to 64F for the rest?

    Another D-rest question

Brewed a Brewers Best extract kit of German Oktoberfest. Followed all the usual directions and hit my OG of 1.054 as planned. Chilled to 64F, transferred to FV, aerated, and pitched a packet of Safale S-23 into 5.5 gallons of wort. Using a Tilt Pro to monitor temps and fermentation activity...

    Water, or technique?

Yes I am, I check pH at 15 minutes into the mash and add lactic acid to get my numbers. Sorry I didn't mention it...

    Water, or technique?

Wanted to follow up, or conclude, it anyone ever stumbles upon this thread. I brewed the second batch with distilled water, added salts according to brewfather, and pitched kveik yeast, just like the first batch. Fermented at 100°F and saw activity stop at 14 hours. OG was 1041, FG 1008. I...

    Sierra Nevada pale ale, sorta

I brewed almost exactly what you did, the color was a bit off, but the taste was accurate, and that's what matters to me. I feel like the hops take the lead here, and tend to push things in the right direction.

    ❗INKBIRD Vacuum Sealer5️⃣0️⃣% code for Limitied Time❗

@leoatslt is correct. I was able to apply both of the coupons, but the additional 20% was not deducted form the total. This is definitely a problem on Amazons end.
