Question regarding hops vines required height

First, thanks a lot for your input. I do go through this arbor from time to time... What do you mean by leaving plenty of room between the posts ? I cannot modify the arch itself... Mine really looks like this picture in the link I posted, so you think that the hops could "clog" the...

Question regarding hops vines required height

Sorry about the confusion, that's what I meant to do... I plan on using the same hop variety on both side, but to limit it to one vine on each side.

Question regarding hops vines required height

Hi, I have a wooden arch in my backyard unto which I might want to grow hops on. It's your typical 7 to 8 feet high, by about 3-4 feet wide wooden arch that you sometime see in parks. Kind of like this one. I plan on using two of the same variety of hops, one per side of the...

    obscene styles

During the holidays, I tasted La Barberie's Chardonnay Blond Ale, and was pleasantly surprised! I have no clue how they brew it, but it tasted somewhat like a belgian strong al, although less heavy on the mouthfeel, with a late taste of chardonnay that was refreshing and not too overpowering at...

    Propane Burner/Stand

I was checking out this burner too, but they were all out at the Canadian Tire near me. Personally, I would say to go for it since it is so cheap and comes along with a 7.5 Gallon pot... If the burner sucks, then when you'll buy a proper burner, you'll have a backup :D

Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

That's what I've been doing and it works great... However, you must take into consideration that your evaporation rate will be doubled when using two pots. Using two 5 Gal. Pots, I lost a little over 2 gallons to evaporation over a 60 minutes boil. That's quite a lot, but splitting the...

    First brew recap. Suggestions welcomed.

Didn't do an iodine test. I took the 50/50 as ok since that's what BierMuncher did in his blue moon clone recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f71/blue-balls-belgian-wit-blue-moon-clone-24978/

    First brew recap. Suggestions welcomed.

Hi, Thanks in great part to this forum, I brewed my first batch ever yesterday. The goal of this thread is two-fold. First, I wanted to share a journal-like report of my first brew day so that other people about to start brewing can better grasp how it goes. Secondly, I simply...

Techniques That Have The Biggest Impact

Do you have a propane burner ? I hope so, because it takes about an hour for me to bring 3.5 gallon in a 5 gallon pot to a boil. I still do Full Boils though... by boiling 3 gallons in each of my two 5 gallons pots. :rockin:

Primary fermentation in a bucket instead of carboy ?

Gotcha. Well off the the LHBS to get the additional gromet and airlock.

Primary fermentation in a bucket instead of carboy ?

That's what I'll do thanks... So, are you saying that it is actually better (or at least more practical) to only use plastic buckets with the lid drilled and accomodated with a gromet and airlock than to use glass carboys ? If so, then why are all the pictures of experienced home...

Primary fermentation in a bucket instead of carboy ?

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I know that the 5 gal carboy is too small for primary, and this one I'll only use for secondary. What I was pondering is buying a new 6 gal carboy for primary, but I think that for now your solution will be just fine (and less expensive). When I gain some...

Primary fermentation in a bucket instead of carboy ?

Hi, I'm new to these forums and to home brewing. I spent the last week reading from beginning to end Palmer's HowToBrew website, and spent some more time around here. So I'm about to be as confident as I can be before starting my first batch. However, I am somewhat unclear about the...

woa, quoting from a year-old post... Is it me or does this guy didn't understand the principle of priming for bottling ?
