    Nitrogen/co2 tank

Most gas companies will fill the tank for you. I looked into it a couple of months ago and the cost for a re-fill was 40 or 120 for a 10# tank. The problem I had was the cost of the tank, so I am going to wait. You may want to check the pressure test date on those tanks, I found out that they...

    Cold brewed coffee/tea

Man I hope you just got a bad bottle. I've read tons of reviews about this one and they all were good, so I gave it a shot. Oh well, I'll know in a couple of months.

    Cold brewed coffee/tea

It's from the BYO clone mag: 10.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) 1.00 lb Wheat Malt, Dark (9.0 SRM) 0.70 lb Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) 0.50 lb Corn Sugar (Dextrose) (0.0 SRM) 0.60 oz Horizon [12.00 %] (60 min) 0.20 oz Williamette...

    Cold brewed coffee/tea

Brewed a Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout and am almost ready for the coffee addition. Are there any sanitization steps I need to worry about? Everything I've read states that I may need to boil and cool the water prior to steep and sanitize the vessel the coffee will steep in. Any suggestions?

    Co2 tank placement

Two questions: Are there any issues with the Co2 tank pressure when storing the tank inside the kegerator? Can you store the tank horizontally? I am trying to utilize the dead space where the drawer normally is.

    Ridiculously low efficiencies, why???

I plan on brewing this weekend so last night I checked the calibration on my thermometer and hyrdrometer. The Hyrdometer was off a bit and my thermometers were off 5 degrees. With that, and the advice, this session should be better.

    Ridiculously low efficiencies, why???

Just saw flyguy's thread on efficiency....., I'm guessing crush and mis-calculated sparge volume threw me out of whack. Any other insights or tips would also be appreciated.

    Ridiculously low efficiencies, why???

I only have 4 all grain batches "under my belt" and thought I was doing well. By that I mean they all turned out good, tasted well. Until.....I entered all the data I had kept into Beersmith and brew365's ipod software, all my batches had efficiency ratings from 50%-60%. Yeah...I know...sad...

    Calculating dead space

I am going test the system this week. Maybe my evaporation/boil off is crazy high. For the first batch I started of with 7 gallons pre-boil, boiled for 90 minutes and ended up just shy of 5 gallons in the primary. So the next batch I compensated and had 7.5 gallons pre-boil, boiled for 90 and...

    Calculating dead space

My last two batches have come up short on the final volume after transfer to the carboy. Short by a gallon!!!! I use a three tier system utilizing a pump and CFC and thought I figured in enough extra grain and water to compensate for beer left in the CFC and pump when the keggle ran dry, but...

    Second yeast addition

Good information, thanks. I will check my gravity reading in a week or so when I dry hop.

    Second yeast addition

At what point, or if ever do you add a second addition of yeast? I remember reading somewhere that adding a small amount of yeast a week or two after visible signs of fermentation has stopped that adding yeast will kick start the process, leading to higher ABV. Is this right? Anyone have...

What to do, what to do? Advice needed

I did the regular Stone IPA. Yeah the OG was on the low end, but even at the low end still looking like it will yield a respectable Alcohol%. It stills feels weird to bottle so soon, but hey, the hydrometer has spoken. I will probably give a few more days anyway. THis raises another question...

What to do, what to do? Advice needed

I brewed the Stone IPA clone from the BYO article on Sunday Morning 3/29 with an OG of 1.055. Fermentation activity was good within a couple of hours and stayed active through Wednesday. Thursday and Friday no activity, so I decided to rack to secondary for dry hopping, and the gravity reading...

    Wheat question

My last batch was an American Wheat. I noticed the same type of matter floating around, but it didn't raise an alarm because I had read that wheat beers usually have more junk floating around in the primary. The first week after kegging was still cloudy, but now two months into it, it is the...
