Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Also, in the worst case scenarios, your vehicle should be used to remove you from the disaster zone. Not tool around in it proving one way or the other which fuel is better.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Agreed. Strange it’s coming from a third person and not him.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I guess we’ll have to wait until Mad Scientist chimes in as I’m still confused over what transpired since I had already directly addressed his widespread power outage concern. He had moved on to a different point and I addressed that one as well. Or preferably, we just move on.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Fair. All too often the pro-gas crowd (not you, just saying) ignores the fact that the gasoline industry requires a heck of a lot of electricity from extraction to production through to delivery and individual consumption. These are all important factors when disaster strikes, necessitating a...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

To put this to bed: my prior posts, 3210 and 3213 specifically (just above the mad scientist post quoted by Mac), both directly addressed my hurricane Sandy experience which resulted in a widely reported regional power outage and extensive longterm destruction. In 3215, the post Mac quoted, I...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

But that’s the rub: inexperienced people never question how they will get gas. They just assume it will be present and easily available but electricity won’t be. This past October I was in Tampa/Clearwater after the hurricanes. As with my past experiences, gas lines persisted long after...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I don’t know if this was directed at me, but that’s exactly what I was addressing. I don’t deal with complete hypotheticals. I stick to what I have seen in real life. Considering my past experience as a 4 time combat veteran, a cop who responded to Katrina and Sandy, and my recent experience as...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Microsoft just contracted with Three Mile Island to reopen a shuttered reactor to power an AI data center. “Blah blah, evs will crash the grid!” meanwhile we need a whole nuclear reactor so people can have AI complete simple tasks for them.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I guess you have to experience it to understand. I don’t know what else to say. I drive way more than the average American and I haven’t experienced a single instance of inconvenience since purchasing my first EV 4 years ago. I’m on my second and my wife drives one also. Hers has never been...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

If I had my EV then, it would have been far more convenient than my gas car doing 12 tours for 2 weeks straight praying I could find gas every 2-3 days. Then waiting on ridiculous lines when the calls went around confirming stations that actually had some. So yeah, I wish I’d had a Tesla then...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

The worst disaster I have ever experienced was Hurricane Sandy. The region had spotty power starting the day after which progressively improved every day. My home was fully back to normal on the second day. We couldn’t reliably obtain gas for over 2 weeks. And for me, that was still the case...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Maverick is pretty small/ I may not be as old as you, but I don't recall ever seeing an F150 that size. I'd have to see actual numbers on that comparison to believe it. Are you sure you didn't mean the Ranger? I can certainly agree with that one. The current Ranger is the size of the 90's 1/4...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I doubt this will sell very well. They’re effectively “cheating” to bring down the cost to a number that clicks in people’s minds as “affordable” but that’s not really the case, you’re just losing every comfort we’ve come to expect for 40+ years now. It’s not what Americans want. If it were...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

The $20k price includes the rebate so it’s really $27,500. Not all that great for a vehicle that can only travel 150 miles and doesn’t even have a radio. Considering everything that comes standard in a base Maverick is an additional add-on, this is really just a stripped down version of what’s...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Had the new Santa Fe been a 2023, and I’d been able to find a used one, I’d have gone back to gas to get that 3rd row. It’s the only 7-seater I like the look of.

Thanks, it was. Gouda, sautéed onions, and mushrooms. And of course that awesome pretzel bun.

    Burger & Beer Thread!

Crap I forgot to post our latest Meat Up pics. This is from last Tuesday at my favorite bar ever, Killmeyer’s in Staten Island. It’s a very old, authentic German pub from the “company store” days of the local brick factory. They recently changed hands after quality went south for a bunch of...

What book is on your nightstand? Readers!

I've been reading Shadow & Claw by Gene Wolfe. It's a masterwork of far-future sci-fi. Amazing. Odd side note: Gene Wolfe was a member of the team that created the machine to shape Pringles.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

It's looking like AI will consume far more power than cars. Consider also that as gas use drops, a decent amount of electricity will be shifted from gas stations, refining, etc, to charging.
