Natural gas brew stand - 23 tip burner to 10 tip conversion build.

So, I went to the BBQ shop and picked up the hardware necessary to hook up the 23 jet burner. The BBQ guy told me that he had the same burner and uses it for big lobster boils. Anyway, I wasn't able to find the M8 fine threaded bolts I need to plug up 13 of the jets, so I decided to hook up the...

The ethics of sanke kegs: WTF do I do with this old keg?

Why not just sell the keg to another hombrewer. If you're having some kind of ethical crisis, and you won't be able to sleep at night, then give the keg back to ease your conscience and if you get the deposit back, consider it a bonus. Otherwise, just keep it or sell it.

    Wot no gas?

Why not let it sit another 2 weeks before checking?

Natural gas brew stand - 23 tip burner to 10 tip conversion build.

I just bought this burner. I'm wondering if it's really necessary to plug all but 10 tips? Wouldn't it be just as effective to increase the distance between the burner and the kettle? With a good wind shield are there any reasons this wouldn't work?

    Rice Hulls problem

This is what I did. I also used the zest from 3 sweet navel oranges instead of bitter oranges. I tried not to go as bitter as usual, cause I want SWMBO to like it. 0.5 Oz Corriander Seed Spice 5 Min.(boil) 3.00 Oranges Orange Peel zest Spice 5...

    Rice Hulls problem

I used Tettnanger, but I'm unsure how much. It smelled so good. I'll check my brewing software tonight when I get home and I'll let you know.

    Rice Hulls problem

I brewed a wit a week ago without any rice hulls, and I didn't get a stuck sparge. Mine was 5% oats, 47.5% unmalted hard wheat, 47.5% 2-row. I did a 5 gallon batch where I mashed in a 10 gallon square cooler using a stainless braid. I mashed at 1.5 qt/lbs No problems. No stuck sparge. No rice...

Brew Pot too small, can I make an AG? (cheapskate post)

I've used 2 pots to do full boils on a 5 gallon batch. I have a 5 gallon and a 4 gallon pot. Once I collect the wort, I put half in each pot and start them boiling. I split the hop additions and throw half in each pot. After I cool the wort, I put the contents from both pots into a single...

The Most Terrible Beer Ever orrr The Worst Beer Of All Time?

First time I tried Caffrey's Cream Ale, it was horrible. None of us could finish our pint. I don't know if we got a bad batch or what. I haven't had the courage to try it again.

    Credit Card Recommendations

Credit cards don't put you in debt. Bad spending habits put you in debt. I only use a credit card for my purchases since I get reward miles and I'm not in debt. FWIW, I love my Aerogold VISA. Free flights are great.

Priming Solution: To Cool or Not To Cool

Strange. I've never heard of a priming solution that defies physics and won't cool to ambient :D

    Apfelwein wondering

I've fermented apfelwein with dark brown sugar. It worked great. It had a slightly different flavor than white sugar, but it was still good.

    Too much, too soon?

Put the stopper back in but use your racking cane as a blowoff tube. Do a search on this forum for more information.

    Apfelwein..Top 5 things I learned...

FWIW, I've had 2 batches of apfelwein that have required a blow off when topping them off to the neck.

    Cheap brewing

What do you have? If you have a fermentor, a pot, and some bottles, you have the absolute minimum to create beer. Your process won't be as good as someone who is better equipped, and you might have to brew smaller batches, but you'll still be brewing. Sometimes it's fun to be resourceful...

    "triple fermentation"

Sounds like you're drinking Maudite - a very smooth beer for 8 or 9%. One of my favourites. When I was in Grade 5 or 6, we read the legend about the flying canoe which you see on the box. Great beer. Great story.
