    Bar build - Thanks All

Yeah, the DIY aspect was the Keezer. I did all of that work myself and had planned to turn it into a coffin Keezer but at the last minute, I decided to put it in my storage room and then run glycol cooled lines to the bar, through the soffit. I am not handy enough to build the Irish pub of my...

I am just redoing the beer lines etc. I contracted the rest out to a custom cabinetmaker.

It is moving slower than expected, but it is moving.

Wait until you see the crown molding go on and the recessed lights that go in the soffit. It is definitely higher quality. Now, if I can just stay patient!

They began the installation. They installed the cabinets on the back wall and the soffits. They brought all of the boxes for the under counter cabinets. There will be crown molding on the soffit and the the cabinets too. The long cabinet on the wall will have my bar mirror mounted to it. The...

Thanks. Turns out it is a good thing they had to tear it out. Among the things they found, which is an extensive list, was the counters were MDF and had started to mold and the soffit they added was held up with nails in only two places and was ready to fall down. The new bar will not only look...

Since they are keeping all the plying and electrical, as well as the frame, it will be under $30k.

This is the kind of craftsmanship I was expecting. Not the same design, but you can tell the overall quality, and attention to detail, is far better. This is one my new contractor is doing.

Just got word that the new bar will be installed starting on August 20th. They build it in their shop and then install it onsite. They could not believe that my contractor tried to do all of it in my basement. It will take them several days to install it, which is much nicer than losing my...

Thanks rvklein! This new company has a $4,000 spray gun for epoxy. Another nice thing is that they do it in a spray booth in their shop. So, no dust!

Don't worry, the liquor shelf stays! They will reuse the existing boxes and frame but reskin the whole thing. The drawings were the first pass. We are making some changes to it before I sign anything. Hopefully I will end up with something that I will love, and will last, many years to come.

I have to admit that I am pretty crushed. I had a huge housewarming/grand opening last weekend and although it went well, it was a very embarrassing day for me. On the bright side, I didn't care if any damage was done to the bar or carpets. None was though. :) They were insured and we are...

FYI, the epoxy was needed to protect the copper bar top as well as the copper on the counters

So, a little update. The epoxy that my contractor put down has pretty much ruined my bar. Not only is it cloudy, rippled and generally poorly done, but it has dripped all over the place. It got on my ice maker cover and they thought using Goo Gone would take it off. No luck, but it did take most...

Hey, I am in Gainesville, VA. You are welcome to come look at anything you want, to help figure stuff out. I used Manassas Glass for the mirror and then a decal company online to do the graphics. The mirror was about $300. The decal was $176 vs. $2,000 to etch it. Sorry, not made of money, the...
